Are you a Liar?

I hate it when people make excuses instead of telling the truth, you can always tell when they are trying to think up an excuse on the fly. The sentence starts with “uhhhhh, yeah I would, uhhhhh, but here’s my situation…” The more “uhhhhs” there are, the more creative the excuse will be, and they can get very interesting. There are times I could help get you off the hook if you are making that excuse to me, but I have a little mean streak in me and most likely I will just let you sweat it out and see how far it can go. Excuses and hints don’t get it for me and I come from the loins of a man who felt the same way. One of the things my parents always loved to tell when they were retelling the story of their meeting and subsequent quick wedding was that after proposing to her he told her “I don’t take hints. If you want something ask me straight out because if I think you are just hinting hoping I will read your mind, I won’t.” He meant it and that went all the way through his personality not only with my mother but also with his children and friends. I find I am the same way; if someone hints at something they want from me I will ignore it, I will go out of my way to evade the meaning until it you plainly state what it is you want. On top of that excuse/hint thing, I can’t stand a liar and just so you know, I can always tell when someone is lying; you usually trip yourself up by over explaining or getting your facts mixed up. Question, why not just tell the truth in the first place, that way you don’t have to remember what you said, now that’s an idea, right? So there you have it, excuse makers, hinters, and liars. I don’t think I am alone, I imagine that if your eyes are reading this you are just like me, be honest, shoot straight, tell me what you want. If you think about it we all came from the same Father, the One who Created us, we probably just take after Him because, after all, He created us in His own image!

God gave Adam and Eve free run of their world, the Garden of Eden, they were to dominate and rule everything! How many of us would like to be “king of the world”? Yet when God came to them in the cool of the day for their evening conversation, they hid from Him, which was lying by trying to be deceptive. Did they really think the Creator of all they could see wouldn’t know what they had done? They turned over the keys of the Kingdom of their physical world to the enemy and lost the part of their spirit that could communicate with God face to face. God was pretty ticked with them and made them leave their cushy surroundings and set an angel there to guard the gates of the Garden so they could not return, and on top of that the woman was told she would have to suffer to bring her children into the world, Adam was told he was going to have to work by the sweat of his brow to make his vegetables grow instead of just walking up to a plant in a self-watering garden, pluck and eat!

Revelation 21:8 But cowards who turn back from following me, and those who are unfaithful to me, and the corrupt, and murderers, and the immoral, and those conversing with demons, and idol worshipers and all liars—their doom is in the Lake that burns with fire and sulphur. This is the Second Death.”

Just tell the truth in the first place, that way you don’t have to remember what you said!

  2. I agree. With 99.9% of what you’ve written here.

The .1% is the part about “…you usually trip yourself up by over explaining…” I get that the word ‘usually’ is included, however

I over explain. To the extreme! And when I’m doing it I’m often thinking, “Just get to the point. You’re giving too much detail. Now they don’t believe you.” AND THEN, I believe I come across in a way that increases their suspicion that I’m lying. LOL Because I know that’s what their thinking, I start to feel guilty.

I’m right there with you in that I abhor lying. I never want to lie or be lied to.

And while the Word states that a liar will not enter in, I believe it is not referring to someone who, maybe out of fear or guilt, lies to save themself the consequence. But rather to one whose heart is filled with deceit. Whose purpose is to deceive.

I have a strong personality and have caused some to feel uncomfortable when I would question them. They didn’t want to deal with my disapproval, so they’ve lied to me.

When I changed. So did they. They knew they were safe and could tell me anything…

  3. I love a “straight shooter”! You can trust them a lot more. I do not trust someone at all once I know they have lied to me. I learned as a child not to lie because I couldn’t remember my lies and would get in worst trouble because of it. I learned to tell the truth even if it meant that I would get punished because the punishment would not be anywhere near as bad. LOL
