On Starting Over

When someone, who is close to your own age, dies suddenly, it makes you stop and take stock of what is going on inside of your own self! We are close to the end of September with Fall beginning at 4:02 today (if you are reading this on Friday) this year has gone so fast! When the year was young we all made resolutions for things we wanted to do before the end of the year. I had a goal and I did not, as yet, reach it, have I tried hard enough? I plead the fifth! However, if like me you haven’t kept them, it doesn’t mean that you have to quit! Look at your surroundings are you where you had hoped to be at this stage of your life? I was thinking, about my own life and feeling disappointed that things I really felt I had been called to do have not materialized as I had hoped they would but as I mulled this thought over, a louder thought came through; I realized that restoration of my soul, was what I needed. Psalm 23:3 “He restores my soul.” Another translation says: “He renews my strength.” I looked at a couple of examples from the Bible. First there is Moses. You know his story, destined to be killed when he was born; he was saved, and then ended up in the backside of nowhere tending his father-in-laws herds! When he was eighty years old, God spoke to him from the burning bush and his life took on a whole new meaning! He went back to Egypt, freed his people from slavery and led them to the gates of the Promised Land! Joseph, who as a boy had dreams of grandeur, seeing himself as a ruler, he found himself forgotten in prison until he had the chance to interpret a dream for the King, becoming second in command to the King and saving his own family from starvation. Samson, who had led his people as Judge for over 20 years, ended up blinded, pushing a grinding wheel like a mule, being made the brunt of all the jokes. God gave him the strength, restored his soul and allowed him to be the weapon that would destroy thousands of Philistines as the final act of his life.

Is there a promise that you haven’t kept? Ecclesiastes 5:6 “Don’t let your mouth make a total sinner of you. When called to account, you won’t get by with ‘Sorry, I didn’t mean it.’ Why risk provoking God to angry retaliation?” Do you want to re-invent yourself? Want to change your life? God is on your side; He has a plan for you. If you feel like you have missed it, without delay, today, just start over. Philippians 4:12-13 “I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.”

Start over!
