When you come home…

I had an errand to run this afternoon and as I drove through the tree lined streets the sun was shining on the golden leaves and the beauty just about took my breath. This song came up on my play list and I couldn’t stop the tears, you could say I was nostalgic. Nostalgia definition: a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time inone’s life, to one’s home or homeland, or to one’s family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time

A singer I had never heard started singing, “When you come home no matter how far, run to the door and into my arms, it’s where you are loved it’s where you belong and I will be here when you come home.” It’s a song that follows a young man from getting a scraped knee on the playground and needing his mom to the day he is by her bedside when she dies, her last words to him were the same that she had said to him so many times, “When you come home…” only this time the home she was referring to is the heavenly home where she is going and where she wants him to follow. As I listened I thought of all the times I had come through the doors of my home sad, hurt, upset and needing the comfort of the familiar touch of my mother telling me everything was going to be alright and then going to my dad for a prayer which really and truly made it all better. No matter what happened I always knew there would be comfort and love waiting for me behind the doors of my home.

There’s a hymn that gives me comfort now when I have times of stress, “There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God, a place where sin cannot molest near to the heart of God.” That is where I find love and comfort for the scraped knees of my soul, I fall into the arms of Jesus because He told me in John chapter 14, “Don’t let this throw you. You trust God, don’t you? Trust me. There is plenty of room for you in my Father’s home. If that weren’t so, would I have told you that I’m on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live.”

Next time you feel sad, need someone to tell your troubles to, know that He waits for you and is saying to you today, “When you come home no matter how far, run to the door and into my arms, it’s where you are loved, it’s where you belong and I will be here when you come home.”
