…and when you need comfort…

There are times when we need the comfort that the warm and comforting hand of our parent when we were young that made us feel that all was right with the world. I felt like that so many times after my divorce, and even worse after the death of my dad once so powerful both in the physical and spiritual sense and caring for my mother until her death when she became so childlike herself. I felt I had no place to turn so I went to Psalm 121 I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains. He won’t let you stumble; your Guardian God won’t fall asleep. Not on your life! Israel’s Guardian will never doze or sleep. God’s your Guardian, right at your side to protect you—Shielding you from sunstroke, sheltering you from moonstroke. God guards you from every evil; he guards your very life. He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now, He guards you always.

You want to be strong because people are looking to you to tell them what needs to be done next and how can you tell them when you don’t know yourself? You have to do what I heard my dad say so many times at home and over the pulpit, he would say he would grab himself by the nap of the neck, take himself to the nearest mirror, look at himself straight in the eyes and have a little talk with the person that was causing him so much trouble! What it all comes to is this, when a person is determined to give you trouble by judging your motives when you are doing what you know is right then whose fault is it if they misunderstand? You have to just leave it with God because you will never be able to defend yourself out of a problem. I find that it is hard to have a one sided argument, and if they throw something at you just don’t catch it, let it fall to the ground, or as someone said to me when I complained that a person was sucking the life out of me, they suggested I “take away the straw”… I thought that was good advice!

Isaiah 26:3 says, “People with their minds set on you, you keep completely whole,
Steady on their feet, because they keep at it and don’t quit.”

    1. Thank you so much for sharing the personal “you” with me. That’s really how we help each other isn’t it? I will hit the link you sent and maybe someone else who needs it will also. 😇🙏🏼

    2. I re-bogged the post. I also post at http://apps.harowritingoutloud.com/blog and was going to re-blog it there also but on that site you can only post 4000 words, so it limits. I post that on Twitter and oddly get more hits on that site than on this one. I don’t now who reads it but if the Word is getting out there it doesn’t matter. 🙂

      1. Nice!

Very cool. Thanx for sharing that. I notice that old post generated several hits today, and currently has more attraction than any of the recent ones.

Yes, it is a vulnerable post to share. There was a long dark time in my life that is practically nothing like it is now. I tend to forget those truly dark times, since I am just way to busy with babies mostly, and they fill up my life with so much action, hope, and joy. But once in a while I stop and think about where I have been, and I shutter. That little book was not the only help I found, but it sure anchored me with Jesus during a vicious storm. So I think it was a gift from God that proved vital for life with him.

Your post has me thinking of that painful time again. I reckon it will always be with me, but like I say, day-to-day, I don’t remember it anymore. Too full with new life most of the time.

        Thanx again for sharing…

Glad to have your readers visit.

        God bless you…

        x
