A rant concerning Social Media

3: of or relating to human society, the interaction of the individual and the group, or the welfare of human beings as members of society 

4a : tending to form cooperative and interdependent relationships with others

Those of you who know me are already aware of my fascination with the dictionary and the Thesaurus, I love seeing the full meaning of words that we use on a daily basis, if you didn’t know, now you do.

So why ‘social’?

I was just sitting here perusing the timeline of my ‘social media’ page and realized something. There are a few shared pictures, old pictures, which I love, and pictures of babies, my own two twin grandsons included, but for the most part today this is what I saw. There are people telling me about the unfairness of the government, the awful and neglectful way they are treated by their family, telling me (collective) that unless I put a certain phrase in the comment section I will be eliminated from their list of friends, and how sick they are. Basically we find out how angry people are about our elected officials and get threatened with expulsion from their list if we disagree more than we simply socialize. I have gotten to the point that I put very little on my page outside of posting the link to my blog and the thoughts of changing my profile picture is almost repulsive.

There is little reason for this particular blog outside of the fact that I just wanted to say it and there was no one in hearing range of me to receive this all-important message. JSo go ahead, post away, I love seeing your pictures and the daily hellos from a few good friends with pictures they know I will like, just tired of reading complaints against family members and political rants.

Social media just isn’t that social anymore, say, “shut up Harolene” , I just did!
