Please comfort me

My heart just broke every time his blood had to be checked or given a shot before he ate, or when his count was too high. The needles for those shots are pretty small and he didn’t seem to mind it so much, however there is a long acting shot that he has to take at night and the needle for that one is a lot larger. When he was small I watched as my daughter was giving him his night-time Lantus insulin shot and he started to cry, not out loud but his dear little face all contorted with silent tears as he just looked at me. My heart melted and I walked over to him, he put his arms around me, face in my chest as he got the shot in his exposed rear. The word “comfort” came to my mind and I was a comfort to him in that moment, what a wonderful feeling.

When you are little and think you are lost, there is no more comforting feeling than finally seeing your parent’s face in the crowd. When someone in your family dies, you seek the comfort of your other relatives because they are the only ones who can really identify with what you are feeling and so you can comfort each other.

Hebrews 2:17-18 “That’s why He had to enter into every detail of human life. Then, when He came before God as high priest to get rid of the people’s sins, He would have already experienced it all Himself—all the pain, all the testing—and would be able to help where help was needed.” Jesus couldn’t have helped us if He had not felt all that we had felt and been through. Psalm 23:4 “Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook comforts and makes me feel secure.” What could possibly be more comforting than knowing your battles will be fought while you are kept safe and secure? Deut.33:27  “The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out, ‘Destroy them!’” My question is this, who and what are you afraid of when you have this wonderful promise?  Isaiah 51:12 “I, I’m the One comforting you. What are you afraid of—or who? Some man or woman who’ll soon be dead? Some poor wretch destined for dust? You’ve forgotten me, God, who made you, who unfurled the skies, who founded the earth.” I also love this verse: Isaiah 66:13 “As a mother comforts her child, so I’ll comfort you. You will be comforted in Jerusalem.”

An old hymn says, There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God, a place where sin cannot molest, near to the heart of God. Oh Jesus blest Redeemer sent from the Throne of God, hold us who wait before You, near to the heart of God.  I pass these comforting words to you and wish I could put my arms around you so you could feel the human touch that represents Him. Since I cannot do that, I will share the comfort of His Word, His promises. The Apostle Paul closed his letter to the Thessalonians: 1 Thessalonians 5:11 “So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, and no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it.”

I know there are some of you with heart aches, financial problems, relationship troubles and you just need some comfort from a loving parent, I have given you the words, read them, and take comfort from your heavenly Father, God and have quiet rest!
