I’m so hungry!

ImageMy kitchen is full of anything I could want to eat, everything from fruit and veggies to ice cream and anything in between, but there is nothing in any grocery store, fine food restaurant or drive thru that can satisfy the hunger that I feel, there is a hole in my soul and the only thing that can fill it is food from the Table of the Lord. Look around you at all the spiritually skinny people! Sometimes hunger makes people angry, depressed or just in a bad mood. Spiritual hunger manifests itself that way, but the way a hungry person will smell the aroma of hamburgers on a grill and salivate, I hear the sounds of praise and long for a full meal of praise, worship and a desert of seeing people worship around the altar of God, hands raised, some laughing, others crying, a few just standing in awe of the Holy presence of God. I realized an intense hunger, at one of our Orchestra concerts. It was music as usual, wonderful, happy, beautiful, joyful music coming from the talented people that had given hours of practice to bring some good entertainment to a fellowship hall full of people. Everyone was so happy and having a good time, then it happened. My nephew, Nathan, stepped up to the mic and heavenly music began, he raised his golden sax to his lips and began to play, the strains of Holy, Holy, Holy filled the air and the aura of the Holy Spirit moved right down to the front of that great hall. Everyone was transfixed; hands began to rise in deep worship of the living God. I didn’t want it to end, and I certainly didn’t want to play another note of any other song but that one song which repeats the words from Revelation 4:8 Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Oh thank you Jesus for the wonderful knowledge that You loved me enough to die for me, You are Holy! Then this afternoon I was flipping the channels to find where the Atlanta Braves were playing and happened on, what you would think of as a, Christmas movie, The Preacher’s Wife. There stood Whitney Houston behind a mic, the music started and I heard one of my favorite songs, she began to sing, “I love the Lord, He heard my cry and pitied every groan, long as I live and troubles rise, I’ll hasten to His Throne”. As she continued to sing and the choir joined her the spirit of worship filled my messy great room, never mind the toys that had not been picked up, or the glasses left from lunch on the table, God came down and my spirit once again filled with the awe of His Majesty! As the tears rolled, I raised my hands and worshipped Him in the beauty of His Holiness! Then the choir burst into a rousing rendition of Joy to the World! Psalm 100 on your feet now—applaud GOD! Bring a gift of laughter, sing yourselves into his presence. Know this: GOD is God, and God, GOD. He made us; we didn’t make him. We’re his people, his well-tended sheep.  Enter with the password: “Thank you!” Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him. For GOD is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever.  Oh come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord, worship Him with me, and be blessed!
