What is your goal?

ImageIf someone asked you what your goal in life were, what would your answer be? There was a time when all young girls would say it was to be married and have children, back then it was in that order. I wanted to be a nurse, a secretary, join the military and, believe it or not, at one time I wanted to be a Nun! Married? Oh yes, and to a most handsome man which, in turn, looked like Van Johnson, Tyrone Powers, then in my teen years, Elvis, Fabian and then my high school crush, which took me a while to get over. The only thing that stayed with me from the nurse stage to the present is that I wanted to write the Great American Novel! Someone gave me encouragement toward that today! One other thing that was in me from as early as I have a memory of going to the Altar (yes they actually had altars when I was growing up), was my desire to pray for people who went there seeking salvation, the Holy Spirit, or praying for a miracle of some kind in their life. My mother thought I got too intense and, at times, would come and lead me away from the altar and take me home. In my mind I knew she just didn’t know what was happening in me. I didn’t tell her. God began to speak to me when I was about 8. I would lie in my bed and pray and listen. I began to have dreams that came to pass, and at that time, I didn’t tell anyone, but I always had the sense that God knew it all and let me in on a little bit of it. A few years ago I had an early morning vision, you may want to tune me out right here, my paternal grandmother spoke to me, there was another woman I didn’t know with her. She told me to “speak to the people in words they could understand.” She said I needed to understand that people were dying and needed help on a peer level (my interpretation of what she meant), not from someone they were afraid to talk to, someone they felt could understand. That is when I begin to write these devotions. I come to you, my readers, and if you have read me for a while, you probably know all my downfalls and spiritual problems. Why do I expose myself that way? I want you to know there are other people with the same troubles that you have and that there is a solution for them! If you read the book of Hebrews, you see that Jesus came in the form of a man and suffered all the temptations that we face. He traveled with a group of people that, I am sure, were not peaceful every day. There were friends that people considered un-savory and there were the Pharisees.  Do you identify with any of those things? Hebrews 2:16-18 It’s obvious, of course, that he didn’t go to all this trouble for angels. It was for people like us, children of Abraham. That’s why he had to enter into every detail of human life. Then, when he came before God as high priest to get rid of the people’s sins, he would have already experienced it all himself—all the pain, all the testing—and would be able to help where help was needed. You can’t help someone with something with which you have no experience! Jesus did that for us! In my own simple way, I’m trying to follow Him. You can’t help someone with something with which you have no experience! Jesus did that for us! In my own simple way, I’m trying to follow Him. I wrote recently about how it would feel to be packed and prepared for arriving for a vacation in Hawaii only to find that your airline had taken you to Sweden, a place for which you are not prepared; that is what happened to me, I am having to come to terms with my new reality. God tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Let God have your goals, He can make it happen! Be Blessed!
