Liar Liar Pants on Fire

ImageI hate it when people make excuses about things, you can always tell when they are trying to think up an excuse as they go. The sentence starts with “uhhhhh, yeah I would, uhhhhh, but here’s my situation…” The more “uhhhhs” there are, the more creative the excuse will be, and they can get very interesting. There are times I could help get you off the hook, if you are making that excuse to me, but I have a little mean streak in me and most likely I will just let you sweat it out and see how far it can go. Excuses and hints don’t get it for me and I come from the loins of a man who feels the same way. One of the things my parents always loved to tell when they were retelling the story of their meeting and subsequent quick wedding was that after proposing to her he told her “I don’t take hints. If you want something ask me straight out because if I think you are just hinting hoping I will read your mind, I won’t.” He meant it and that went all the way through his personality not only with my mother but also with his children and friends. I find I am the same way; if someone hints at something they want from me I will ignore it, I will go out of my way to evade the meaning until it you plainly state what it is you want. (I must insert a parenthetical statement right here! Another thing that I really hate is to be complimented profusely as I know there is a request on the other side of all that greasy flattery! Had a phone call this week, the lady started out telling me how I was her favorite so-and-so and I laughed as I said, ‘OK just tell me what you want because anytime you start a conversation like that I know it’s coming’. She sputtered around for a moment and was going to deny it but the desire to ask her request of me was greater than her embarrassment at getting called on it! Hey I am really not mean, just jaded!) But I digress…  On top of that excuse/hint thing, I can’t stand a liar. And just so you know, I can always tell when someone is lying; you usually trip yourself up by over explaining or getting your facts mixed up. Question, why not just tell the truth in the first place, that way you don’t have to remember what you said, now that’s an idea, right? So there you have it, excuse makers, hinters, and liars. I don’t think I am alone, I imagine that if your eyes are reading this you are just like me, be honest, shoot straight, tell me what you want. If you think about it we all came from the same Father, the One who Created us, we probably just take after Him because, after all, He created us in His own image! God gave Adam and Eve free run of their world, the Garden of Eden, they were to dominate and rule everything! How many of us would like to be “king of the world”? Yet when God came to them in the cool of the day for their evening conversation, they hid from Him, which was lying by trying to be deceptive. Did they really think the Creator of all they could see wouldn’t know what they had done? They turned over the keys of the Kingdom of their physical world to the enemy and lost the part of their spirit that could communicate with God face to face. God was pretty ticked with them and made them leave their cushy surroundings and set an angel there to guard the gates of the Garden so they could not return, and on top of that the woman was told she would have to suffer to bring her children into the world, Adam was told he was going to have to work by the sweat of his brow to make his vegetables grow instead of just walking up to a plant in a self-watering garden, pluck and eat! James 1:6-7  “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” Make up your mind! Believe! Revelation 3:16 “So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.” Get hot, get cold, get in, or get out, but make up your mind! A man and his wife, Ananias and Sapphira, found out what a lie could get them, they both dropped dead and were carried out of the church and buried! In Matthew 22 you read of a King that invited guests to the wedding supper and they all had excuses, very weak ones if you ask me. The King was so angry he deemed they weren’t worth to come in and sent his servants to go out into the highways and hedges and compel people to come on it! Lesson, before you make an excuse, tell a lie or hint to God about your needs, stop and think, it doesn’t work with me and it won’t work with Him!
