Living in the house with a twenty year old girl has made me remember how I used to study each page of the latest issue of Glamour Magazine, how I tried all the make-up tips and wanted more than anything to look like the girl looking back at me from those glossy pages. In listening to different people talk about themselves, women and men alike, it seems that no one is really happy with the way they are. This includes everything from the way they look to how they conduct their business…and the problem is this…even if you are happy with yourself…there are those critics around you that are always trying to change you into the “person you need to be.” There are those of us who feel that we are doing the best we can and still come up a little short of perfect. Matthew 5:48 “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” We read that and, frankly, it can scare you just a little…”how can I be perfect?” Look at V43-48You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that. This is HOW you can be this perfect, or at least a work in progress! Here’s the hard part, 1Corinthians 13:3 “and though I give all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing (or just doesn’t matter).” If it has been a while since you read that chapter, do yourself and favor and “go for it”, it will help you see that the only person you have to please is God and all we have to do is love people, even if they don’t love us back. This includes the person who thinks you “ought to”: lose weight, wear less make up, go to the places they want you to go, always do exactly what they want you to do, shun the same people that they don’t like, gossip about those “less than” or anything from there to in-between and on and on. Take a look at yourself in the mirror and know that this is the body that you have, the face and eyes and hair that only you have and the only one that can control the things you are looking at, in the flesh, is YOU…to let yourself feel inferior to anyone is a sin not only against yourself but against the God that made you exactly who you are. God does ask the question, in Isaiah 45:11, “Who do you think you are to question how I made you?” So that is the first step, then look in the Bible, which is the mirror of the Word of God, to see what we look like to Him. From what I know, we have to obey His commandments or we cannot say that we love Him, and His first and greatest commandment is that we love one another. I want to be right in God’s eyes, not man’s! When it comes down to it, no one can tell you what is right or wrong for you, you have to look in the Word and find out what God has to say about it, for yourself. When you love Him you will keep His commandments and you will become that “perfect person” that everyone around you seems to think you should be, being good and not “sinning” is the easy part for me, it’s the “love thing” that gets me also, so excuse me while I go work on myself, with the help of the Holy Spirit, Who KNOWS that I am a work in progress! Excuse me, anybody seen my mirror?

Thank you for stopping by for a visit! If you read my thoughts you will see that I am sometimes serious, at other times sappy or funny, occasionally I am sad and sentimental, but I am always sincere! I am a single mother who raised two children, born ten years apart and different sexes so first it was bows and dolls, pretty dresses and boys! When my son was born it was rough and tumble games, baseball, soccer, wrestling and girls! I am known for my "smile" and for my default answer to any situation, "no problem", which was something I didn't realize I did until it was pointed out to me! I am a moon watcher and a star gazer. I am astounded and feel so small knowing that every creature that has ever walked the face of this earth has gazed upon that same beautiful orb that my eyes can behold on any night when the earth is not wearing her cloak of clouds. My parents have made me the person that I am. Their love, veracity in all areas of life, humor and passion for their work and each other have given me hope that my life can actually be a happy one! Chances are if you are reading this you already know all this but again, I appreciate your stopping by! While you're here hit the "Like" button for me and thanks for checking in!
