And the winner is…

ImageI love to watch football, baseball, the track races and especially the relay races. There is always an MVP, but I am not talking about the winner, the one with the trophy, the game ball or the giant ring; I am talking about the people who actually finish the race. I watched the Summer Olympics when they were in Atlanta and pretty soon the Winter Olympics will take over our TV schedule, and you know there is always that person who will finish last. I have seen injured runners hobble over that finish line, but finish, they did. I am impressed with a person who will not give up or give in. I like to think of them as Bull Dogs, or the ones who will clinch their teeth and hang on for dear life. Remember this, we are in a race every day, a race for our life. We know the rules of the game, but sometimes it is hard, in the face of everything that gets thrown at us on a daily basis, to continue. Think about abandonment, casting all you care on Him, this helps! In sports, there is always a back up plan, always someone waiting on the bench, a ringer, that can get the job done, bases loaded, two outs and suddenly the manager walks out to the mound, talks behind his hand and throws a signal…he is changing pitchers. There is a scramble in the other dug out and suddenly the one who has waited for a time such as this is called to the plate. The battle between pitcher and batter ensues…who will persevere? It is a breath holding event, and depending on whom you are rooting for you are happy with the home plate umpire for his calls or you’re not, but you are watching closely. Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. The ones that have died in the faith before us are watching from the grand stands in the heavenlies and they are cheering us on! Don’t give up, come on, stand back up, you can do it! Whether you believe that, or not, it is true. They want us to succeed! Chapter 11 is called the Faith Hall of Fame. It discusses many people who died in the faith through the Old Testament, the ones who suffered greatly for their faith, and yet it says in verse 39 All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised, For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us. Wow, talk about relay races and teamwork…they without US would not reach perfection. How would you feel if you were one of them and were counting on YOU to hand off the baton? See why they are cheering us on so? At the end of his life, the Apostle Paul wrote a letter to Timothy, in it he said 2Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith…” Those would have to be the most satisfying words you could say about yourself, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith…what would hinder you from doing just that? You are not alone, don’t be a quitter, a giver upper, you can do all things through Christ, which strengthens you! Philippians 4:13   If you need prayer, all you have to do is let your need be made known, you have agreement with me…where two or three agree as touching anything it shall be done for them of My Father which is in heaven, those words spoken by Jesus Himself!
Be blessed, Pray, don’t give up, don’t give in, finish your race!
