Dead Spirit Seeking Resuscitation!

pic06654[1]Today I wondered what date Easter would be this year so I asked Siri and found that it will be April 20! Wow what a wonderful date that would be if we were still doing dramas at the church. We always dreaded the early Easter because it gave us very little time between the Christmas production and getting ready for our grand Easter!

This of course brought a song to my mind. I am a musician so music is what most speaks to my soul! In this song it seems the author read my spirit and then penned the words and wrote the music score. We’ve all had our “glory days”, we were beautiful, “ripped”, strong, and ready for adventure, then life happens and, it seems, we start to fade. The song, written by Steve Greene, penned right out of my heart says: “All the laughter is gone and the sound of the songs that we sang slowly faded away, Simple joys that we knew when we walked close to you hand in hand in the cool of the day…are just memories…or are they dreams? Yet we hold to the hope that the music will come back again. Bring back the Glory, won’t you show us what life is for, Bring back the Glory, make us open once more, Bring back the music, the trust, the wonder that’s just like a child when he’s never known pain, Bring back the Glory, the Glory again. Give me a cause that is grand and a reason to stand, to be the best I can be, something worthy to live for, a reason to give everything I ever could be. Oh there must be more, oh take me Lord, How I need you to give me a glimpse of eternity.”

Oh how I long to feel the warmth of the Glory of God in a more special way! Recently I went to a school program for my grandson, it was in a church. I sat watching people plod in and find places to sit. No joy in this sanctuary, no feeling of any Glory anywhere in that place. As the principal stood and invited everyone to join her in prayer, I put on my sunglasses and was planning a nice nap, when the back doors opened and the children began to march in. Suddenly there was a little spark, a small feeling of electricity and then full-blown light and Glory as those happy little faces walked to their places in the choir. As they stood, their faces turned upward in anticipation of starting, searching the audience to locate their family, my eyes began to tear, then rolled down my face. I had a light bulb moment, “There it is, the missing link!” I realized we have to become children, be expectant, search for the face of God so that we can see Him smile at our efforts, bask in the Glory that God will shine on us as we struggle to do our best.

We have to trust God the way a child trusts everything a parent tells them until they realize the lies, there is a Santa, there is NO Santa, there is an Easter Bunny, there is NO Easter Bunny…the shot is not going to hurt…the shot DID hurt…BAD! Then they start to know that they are not always told the truth. Jesus told Nicodemus (John 3:3) Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God” If we are “born again” we can become children in trust in God and belief that Jesus can do anything for us! We can believe it “just like a child who has never known pain.” Matthew 18:3 “Assuredly I say to you, until you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

So many people associate authority with an exercise of dominance over others, but He calls us to childlike humility and a servant-like heart as He washed their feet, read John 13:1-17. If you are feeling sad, or empty, look up into the face of the One person you should be trying to please, your heavenly Father. Psalm 30:4-5 All you saints! Sing your hearts out to God! Thank him to his face! He gets angry once in a while, but across a lifetime there is only love. The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter.

If we become like a little child and seek the truthful and loving face of the Father and His loving Son, Jesus, I have a feeling we will feel the Glory once again! Be Blessed!

  1. Great topic, good solid comment about it. Thät’s my plea, Bring back the Glory”. When you have been raised in a Church where the Glory manifest itself almost every service you understand the true meaning of worship. Today in my travels it is very rare where the Glory comes like a flood filling the place with His Spirit. Even when it starts in some places they shut it down by changing the service or just saying this isn’t of God. I have been in services when all you could do was stand or kneel there & just cry. It was impossible to speak or even pray. I know you have been there as I was in your Father’s Church than once. He allowed the Spirit to have His way as nothing was more important to him. Oh to be in more of those services today. I told Lynne I want her to be in one before she dies & then she will have a taste of what Heaven is going to be like. Why do people put away from the true blessings of the Lord? God forgive us is my cry. Bless us Lord till our cup overflows.
