Be prepared! That’s the motto of the Boy Scouts.
“Be prepared for what?” someone once asked Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting,” Why, for any old thing.” said Baden-Powell.
The training you receive in your troop will help you live up to the Scout motto. When someone has an accident, you are prepared because of your first aid instruction. Because of lifesaving practice, you might be able to save a non-swimmer who has fallen into deep water. But Baden-Powell wasn’t thinking just of being ready for emergencies. His idea was that all Scouts should prepare themselves to become productive citizens and to give happiness to other people. He wanted each Scout to be ready in mind and body for any struggles, and to meet with a strong heart whatever challenges might lay ahead. Be prepared for life – to live happily and without regret, knowing that you have done your best. That’s what the Scout motto means.
John 1:6,7 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light that all through him might believe. Mark 1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight. To be able to carry John’s message to people today would be my highest calling! You can’t be “thin-skinned” though, because there are people who will not believe us today any more than the people of that day believed that the Messiah was coming to them as John was saying!
Our highest goal in collecting our “Christian Scout” badges is to live our life in such a way that it will influence people to live a prepared life. How do we do that? By living, ourselves, as if we knew for sure that Jesus was coming back to earth tomorrow! Then we will be ready, prepared.
When I know that company is coming to my house, I get out the mop and dust cloths and cleaning supplies to make sure that it is all perfect! How much more do I want to polish up myself before the day of the Lord? How can I prepare myself to help others? By knowing the Word so well that when someone has a problem we know where to find the answer for them in the scriptures! 2 Timothy 1:15 says Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. We study to show ourselves approved UNTO GOD, no one else, but when you are called upon to help someone you will be glad you studied and feel that approval of yourself!
Be prepared for life – to live happily and without regret, knowing that you have done your best. That’s what the Christian Eagle Scout motto means.

Good words. If we can not help those around us what good are we? The Word challenges us to be ready at all times. If I truly am walking with the Lord, as I should be, I will be ready for Him to use me at that moment without having to wait on me to get ready. That is my goal in life, be ready in season & out of season so He can find me worthy to be of service to Him. He has surprised me more that once by calling on me when I was just going along. I asked to be used & then it shocked me when He did. Thankfully I was ready. It is a great feeling when He uses you & you see success afterwards. Thanks for your post. It brings to mind the seriousness of the hour in which we live. Don’t let a bushel cover your light, always shine out into the darkness, never know who might need the light at that moment.
