Lean On Me

Mother 201“Back in the day”, we used to listen to a song by Bill Withers, Lean on Me. It started, “Sometimes in our lives we all have pain, We all have sorrow, But if we are wise We know that there’s always tomorrow. Lean on me, when you’re not strong And I’ll be your friend I’ll help you carry on For it won’t be long Till I’m gonna need Somebody to lean on.” We know that our “friend” to lean on is Jesus, and we sing “What a friend we have in Jesus“. We ALL need someone to lean on, to help us through a tough time and since there are times when a person that is hurting cannot “feel” Jesus and doesn’t have the faith to know He is there, whether or not He can be felt, we need to become someone strong so those hurting people can lean on us, while we are leaning on HIM!

In thinking about that I remembered something that had been sent to me via email, and looked it up. Read it here:
There was an old deacon who always prayed, ‘Lord, prop us up on our leanin’ side.’ After hearing him pray that prayer many times, someone asked him why he prayed that prayer so fervently. He answered, ‘Well sir, you see, it’s like this… I got an old barn out back. It’s been there a long time; it’s withstood a lot of weather; it’s gone through a lot of storms, and it’s stood for many years. It’s still standing. But one day I noticed it was leaning to one side a bit. So I went and got some pine poles and propped it up on its leaning side so it wouldn’t fall. Then I got to thinking about that and how much I was like that old barn. I’ve been around a long time. I’ve withstood a lot of life’s storms. I’ve withstood a lot of bad weather in life, I’ve withstood a lot of hard times, and I’m still standing too. But I find myself leaning to one side from time to time, so I like to ask the Lord to prop us up on our leaning side, ’cause I figure a lot of us get to leaning at times.
Sometimes we get to leaning toward anger, leaning toward bitterness, leaning toward hatred, leaning toward cussing, leaning toward a lot of things that we shouldn’t. So we need to pray, ‘Lord, prop us up on our leaning side, so we will stand straight and tall again, to glorify the Lord.”

When you read about the life of Jesus, you find that in the hour of His greatest need, His disciples all scattered leaving Him to face the enemy alone and then the worst thing that could ever happen happened when God turned His back on the sin Jesus was bearing for us. He cried out “My God why have You forsaken me?”

I am so glad that He never forsakes us, that He is there for me. There is an old chorus that says, “Oh how He loves you and me! Oh how He loves you and me, He gave His life what more could He give? Oh how He loves you, Oh how He loves me, Oh how He loves you and me!”

I am here because I want to that be a person that someone  can lean on. Are you doing that for anyone?  Happily we can lean on His everlasting arms together!

One of the things that makes me shake my head in amazement the most is the number of good Christians who don’t want to or feel they don’t need to lean on others. Leave the OT out of the picture, just count the number of NT Scriptures that tell us to lean on others for help. This is in addition to the others telling us to lean on God & Jesus. Scriptures states we are a body of parts just like our natural body, We are called a family. We are called a force of many. Yet many Christians try to fly alone. I had someone tell me they couldn’t ask someone else to pray with them & for them because what would they think of me if I did. Who cares? Besides if you really know your position in Christ you would be begging others to pray with & for you when trouble hits. Pride is a five letter word but it sure weighs a ton when draped over someone’s shoulders. God bless. Like you I desire to be there at all times so others can lean on me when things go wrong for them. I may not have all the answers but I have a dear Friend who does & He knows the questions even before we ask. Have a great day.
