I posted this article one year ago after God spared my dad’s life in an absolutely miraculous way. I wanted to re-post it to say this, God has a plan for your life and when you try to live in the center of His will, He will protect His plan in you!
I was praying about a problem that I had in my life a few years back and I said “God I know we are not supposed to question you, but I want to know why?” As I was rehearsing all the reasons that I should be considered a saint, He stopped me and in my spirit I heard His voice tell me that He never said we couldn’t question Him when it was for information and not accusing Him of neglecting or ignoring us.
That helped me then and again tonight when I asked “why”. As my dad was backing his little motorized vehicle into the van tonight as we were leaving for church, something he has done hundreds of times, his wheel went over the side of the ramp and he and his vehicle fell sideways slamming him face first onto the concrete of our driveway. I had screamed at him to stop but he didn’t hear and I was helpless to do anything. He lay there still for a moment before he made a noise and my heart hit the ground right alongside of him. My dad had his sermon notes on a paper clip on the handle bars and had scattered when he fell, the first thing he said when he got his breath was “Where are my papers?” I picked them up and put them on the front seat of the van before I made a call for help. By then blood was gushing from his face, knee, and two fingers. My son-in-law got to him and put his knee under my dad’s head to get it off the ground until could get help, I untangled his legs from the front of the vehicle but it was laying on top of him, my daughter reached down and with strength that only angelic help could give lifted that heavy machine off of him and onto it’s wheels right side up, in one movement, I was amazed! By then my brother-in-law and nephew had arrived and picked him up and back on the seat so that I could minister to his wounds. His face was turning blue and swelling, I put an extra-large band-aid over the cut and ointment on his other scrapes and cuts while he was protesting that we were going to be late for church! He said the devil had tried to kill him but he was going to show him who the strongest power was, he was going to go and deliver his message!
Psalm 91:1-13 You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow, Say this: “God, you’re my refuge. I trust in you and I’m safe!” That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you—under them you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm.” I know that in my dad’s heart God comes first, then my mother and his three children and family, he has given his life to God since he was 17 years old, served Him in every capacity possible and yet here he was laying on the concrete in the cold wind because he was trying to go to church and was more worried about where his sermon notes were than what had happened to himself! The Psalm says God will protect us in his “huge outstretched arms” so what happened? He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they’ll catch you; their job is to keep you from falling.” Really? Then what happened to this servant of God laying on the cold concrete with his face bleeding?
This is the answer, my dad will be 95 years of age on April 5, he fell from a height of about four feet on a machine that weighs in excess of 200 lbs that landed on top of him and he didn’t die! He didn’t break a bone! He didn’t lose conscientiousness, he wanted to, and was able to continue his journey to church and give his sermon! So no I won’t question “why” I only thank God that he is not seriously injured when man people a lot younger than he is have died from less serious falls. Is there a reason it happened? I don’t think so, God showed us His protection power and I am grateful and happy!
For anyone of you reading this that might not know, my dad had “his glorious day” on May 8, 2013, less than two months from the night of which I just spoke. If you would like to read about the experience of someone passing from life to life look it up in my archives here, it is called “My dad’s glorious day”. I need to quit now so that I can cry….
