People often say to me, “This is a secret, please don’t repeat”, “If anyone knew this it could ruin my life”, and many more explanations why it should not be repeated. I don’t mind if you tell me something that you want me to pray about, what I don’t like is making my ears, mind and heart, a garbage can for things that people just want to dump to ease their own conscience.
I received an e-mail containing an analogy that is so true. It’s a lady saying that she was in a Taxi, in NY City, suddenly a car pulled out in front of them causing the driver to slam on his brakes, they were less than an inch from a terrible crash. The driver of the other car was yelling curses out his window, she was afraid there would be a fight. Her driver smiled, a genuine smile, and waved calling out, “Have a nice day!” She asked the driver why he did that; his reply was “People have so much garbage inside of them, everything from guilt, sin, hurt, bad relationships or finances, that they become like a garbage truck. The truck can only get so full before it has to dump its load so it can pick up more, and sometimes you happen to be the person that gets dumped on, it isn’t personal, so don’t add to their garbage load, just accept it and go on, that way YOU won’t start a garbage collection of your own.” I read that as I was dealing with some unsavory characters that I wanted to punch out instead of letting my light so shine (among men so they would know I am a Christian!)
We keep secrets stored inside of us and some of them begin to eat holes in our stomach the size of Nebraska, more Tums, Rolaids and any anti-acid available. John 8:32 You will know the truth and the truth will set you free. Being faithful to the translation, Jesus was speaking to the Jews about knowing Him, personally, and that setting them free, however, I also know that having truth in your life can be like having an acid peel on your complexion. At first you look like you have had a third degree burn, which indeed you have had, you have to stay covered with Vaseline and keep it covered with Saran wrap until it heals. When it is fully healed you have beautiful, scar free (acne scar free for the person I knew that had it), smooth skin. When we are washed in the Word it’s like getting that acid peel, it will take layers of guilt and sin away from you so that you can live free, not afraid of being found out!
Does this seem off-the-wall for me? It comes from having spoken to a person who had done something they wanted me to cover, in case I heard it, putting it in a better light! James 5:16 Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. About this I would say, confess that you have problems or things in your life that need prayer, do not go into detail about what that sin or problem IS, unless you want to hear it repeated! People mean well, but some have the sin of “gossip” and just can’t stop themselves! The best thing you can do is to go to that Friend, the One that sticks closer than a brother, and tell HIM all about it! He has already paid the price for whatever it is you have done, and forgiven you for it! Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgression (sins) from us.
Your sins are gone, so why spread them around? An old hymn says “Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus, He is a Friend that’s well known. You’ve no other such a friend or brother, tell it to Jesus alone.” He keeps your deepest, darkest secrets covered in His blood!
