On “Dealing with life”

moon with mothAround 800,000 to a million people die by suicide every year, making it the 10th leading cause of death worldwide. There is never a good enough reason to take your life; it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. We all have problems; here is what I have been dealing with…

The past three days have been very hard ones with my mother. She has been searching for her “two babies” and is convinced that if we can’t find them something terrible is going to happen. The sad thing is that in her mind it is very real and she is actually terrified about these two faceless, nameless children. Tonight I gave some thought to mothers and decided to write about our “mothers”.

When my grandmother Mushegan died, my grandfather married a lady named Alice.  Alice was a widowed doctor’s wife from Boston and had that wonderful Bostonian accent. It was hard for the family to accept this new lady, such a vast contrast between this petite lady wearing red lipstick and my grandmother, wearing the apron. My grandmother had birthed nine children, eight boys and a daughter, my Aunt Mary, Alice never had a child, but when my Pob married her, he wanted the family to call her Mom, quite a pill for most of them. Something I don’t think any of them understood, I know I didn’t, was that he always referred to her as “Mother to the Nations.” What that meant, I don’t know. Alice succumbed to cancer and on her headstone was engraved: “Alice Mushegan, What a Mother is to the Nations”.
Giving it thought, Eve, wife of Adam and Sarah, wife of Abraham were called “Mother of the Nations”, I decided to “Google” it and found this poem written about “The Great War” (1914-1918) here are two verses from it: So the Mother of Nations has risen in might At the word of the onward call; She has shaken her banners forth to the light, And marched to the front of the people’s fight Like the van of a tidal wall. And the future shall say of her sons who died wherever their feet have trod with millions of comrades in arms allied; “They cast the treasures of earth aside and marched to the goals of God.” Albert D. Watson. These beautiful verses are speaking of our great Mother Nation, America. As mothers and fathers today, are we protecting our rights the way a mother protects her child? Do we stand up for what we believe and the principles for which our forefathers died?
Closer to home, are we protecting the children we have borne with our watchful eye and prayers? I always said my mother had eyes like an eagle, with vision that had a 360-degree view, seeing the least infraction of her rules! I remember that she jerked her dress on and went to my sister’s school to face the teacher who left her on the play yard to be bullied and thrown in a ditch by two boys without realizing she was missing from class. It wasn’t until she returned home that she realized her thin, nylon dress was on INSIDE OUT! Psalm 31:28 Her children shall rise up and call her blessed. Proverbs 1:8 My child hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother. 30. Charm is deceitful and beauty passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.  I realize there are times a woman bears children that is never a real “mother” to them, as there are women having never borne a child, that are natural-born mothers, filled with love for all.

I have daughters, not of my flesh, who call me “Mama H” and it thrills my heart to give them the love they have lost through the loss by death, one by suicide, of their natural mothers. If you haven’t felt the love of a mother, I pray God will fill that place in your heart yearning for the tenderness of a mother’s love. Reach out to someone needing YOUR loving touch, today!

Psalm 113:9 He gives a childless woman a family, making her a happy mother.  There is a saying, “A happy wife means a happy life”, but another way we could say it would be “A caring mother means a happy family!”
