I was in a good mood, took my two grand’s with me to Wal-Mart, since my grandson had been asking me all week to “please, please” take him, and since they have a good price on groceries and the produce is generally fresh because of such a great turnover I just did it! Just telling you that so you know I was happy. I pushed my rapidly filling cart to where the cheese products were and saw an item that my normal grocery story has stopped carrying, the problem was there were four ladies standing right in front of the item I wanted so I tried to look at other things and give them time to move but they were involved in conversation, the one with the cart was kind of leaning on it in a way that signified she had no intention of moving any time soon. The item I wanted was close and all I had to do was reach across the cart and grab it, my big mistake! When I did I must have touched her cart without intending to do so and she became infuriated with me! She asked me for an apology, I quickly “excused” myself, she continued to make ugly remarks and as I started to walk away I told her that I had already said I was sorry, and then she said, “You pushed my cart!” Again I said “Well I didn’t mean to do that.” I did push my cart away as the other three women were laughing out loud at me. I was suddenly just too tired to react and knew better than to turn back around. From there it all went downhill!
It is amazing to me that people seem ready to fight and are on the edge of creating one at all times! I talked with someone today, who is in the ministry and was bemoaning the fact a person whom they considered to be a dear friend had come in to see him this week and just totally turned on him, he was in a state of shock!
The word “Peace” is used 420 times in the KJV Bible, and is something we all dearly need, isn’t it? Let’s look at a few: Psalm 55:18 He has delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me. Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect Peace whose mind is set on you because he trusts in You. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the Children of God.
I have played the organ so many times as my dad sung “Peace in the Valley”, what a beautiful song, and there were times before he died that I would watch as he sat staring off at some scene unknown to anyone but himself and imagined that he was getting a preview of that very Valley he often sang of. This world is becoming less peaceful and there is so much stress from lost jobs, over whelming debt, all of it adding to family and relationship problems until we need to stop and seek the peace that can only be found in the arms of Jesus.
In 1889 George Cooper wrote a beautiful hymn, I don’t think it is being sung much these days, the chorus says “Peace, Peace, wonderful peace flowing down from the Father above! Sweep over my spirit forever I pray in fathomless billows of love.” I can hear that beautiful refrain and let the burdens of this day roll away while the peace of the Lord rolls over my soul.
One last verse before I go; when Jesus was on the boat with the disciples and the storm was raging high, they were all afraid they were going to lose their lives, they ran to awaken Jesus (think I would’ve gotten the hint if He was sleeping) and asked Him if He didn’t care that they were all about to die. Jesus couldn’t believe their lack of faith, he stood and spoke to the sea, “Peace be still” was all He said, and the storm immediately stopped. If you need sweet peace, ask Him to calm the storm in your life and give you the Peace that passes understanding! Amen
