I read about a man who overheard his wife say she “wished she were six again!” Since her birthday was coming up he decided that a good way to celebrate it would be to treat her to a day at Six Flags and then take her to McDonald’s for a Happy Meal dinner! The perfect day for a lady wishing to be six again! When they got home that evening after a day of the park and fast food, she was very tired and said so! He was surprised and said, “Well you said you wanted to be six again and I thought you would like that!” She realized that he had misunderstood and said “A SIZE SIX YOU IDIOT!”
The point was that men don’t really listen, even when they hear. It made me think about how we misunderstand each other sometimes because we are used to listening while watching TV, helping with home work, cooking supper, doing the dishes, heading to the bathroom, even being invaded while trying to bathe! I wonder how many times God tries to get our attention and His voice gets lost in the noises of our life.
There are times in this house that someone is talking, the dog is barking, the doorbell sounds and the phone starts ringing…all at the same time! How can anyone make sense of anything in that kind of noise?
Have you ever wondered how God can pin point your voice distinctly and answer your prayer? Imagine all the noise of the universe, if my house is noisy I can’t imagine trying to hear prayers with jets, rockets and stadiums full of people cheering for their favorite teams, and then there are all the wars going on…the sounds of rifles and bombs, air rockets, people screaming and then there is that lone soldier, maybe he is young and afraid and has never been away from home until he joined the service and he is hiding in a small place begging God to just get him out of there alive.
Well reader dear, I have some good news for you and it is found in the book of Isaiah 65:24 For my people will be as long-lived as trees, my chosen ones will have satisfaction in their work. They won’t work and have nothing come of it, they won’t have children snatched out from under them. For they themselves are plantings blessed by God, with their children and grandchildren likewise God-blessed. Before they call out, I’ll answer, before they’ve finished speaking, I’ll have heard.
I would say that has got to be one of His greatest miracles! It’s right up there with parting the Red Sea to be able to hear each of us individually and answer our particular prayer and I am here to say that He does just that! The promise you just read says that he hears us before we call and answers while we are still speaking, wow, so we, who are mothers, would have to be god-like in order to hear all the things at once that we do, right? OK dads, you too!
I remember a day there were two things that I desperately needed to find and I had put them away so well that I couldn’t find either of them. I walked into the room by myself and spoke to God and asked him to uncover where these items were that I needed so much! Meanwhile my mother came downstairs looking for her purse and wondered if she had left it in the car. I decided to take a break from the frustration of looking and go down to the car and take a peek, already KNOWING it was not going to be there. I was right, her purse was NOT there, but guess what was there, BOTH of the items I had been looking for, one under the passenger seat and the other in the side pocket by my driver’s seat! So doing a good deed just to settle her mind was God’s way of taking me right to the place where the items I asked Him to help me find…WERE! While I was praying, she was looking for her purse, God already knew. Then today my daughter-in-law, who is a second grade teacher, text messaged me and told me she had lost a flash-drive which had all her important information on it and needed it urgently! I texted her back and told her I was praying, and then I said, “God I want you to show her that her mother-in-law can get a prayer through! I heard the message ding on my phone and said out loud, “I found it!” I picked up my phone and sure enough that is exactly what it said, “I found it!” Thank you God!
Next time you need to talk to Him…just DO it! He hears and He answers, and you don’t have to yell, He hears you!
