Everyone wants to be perfect, I know that is a broad statement, but isn’t it true? Women want to be the “perfect” size and that is the size of the models in the fashion magazines. Guys want to look perfect, from their perfectly shaved head or coiffed hair, to the girl on their arm when their friends see them! Women want to have careers as well as being wife and mother and men? They just want it all, sorry guys!
Do you think if you were perfect that everything would be good for you? Well think about this, there was not a more perfect man than Jesus Christ, tempted in every way yet without sin, but as He hung on the Cross God turned His face from Him because He took on the sins of the world and God could not look at sin. As Jesus was dying He called out from the cross “My God, My God why have You forsaken me?” For that period of time, hanging on the cross between life and death, Jesus was utterly alone.
I got excited about the next thing that came to me.
2 Chronicles 16:9 “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” Could that be me? It can be!
Psalm 138:8 The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord endures forever. Did you read that? He will perfect things that concern you and me! Since Jesus gives us the promise that if we ask we will receive, and that He and the Father will come in and “sup” with us, will live in our heart, then He must see us as (dare I say it?) PERFECT! So you may not look in the mirror and see perfection, but if God didn’t see us as perfect could He look at us? No, we aren’t REALLY perfect, but if we are trying with a “perfect” heart, that is all he asks of you! Then there is Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is on you, trust in the Lord for in Him is everlasting strength! Perfect PEACE! Boy, we could ALL use that! Matthew 5:48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. “Perfect” in this sense means, “mature” or “grown up”, so we have the promise that we will become perfect! I like that one!
Are we perfect now? No, but we are becoming that way and our quest for perfection can be over if we just look at ourselves through the eyes of God!
I wonder if that counts when I stand on the scale or look at myself in the mirror, let me go see and I will give you my “perfect” report!
Seek perfection in your prayer time, not in front of the mirror!
