Don’t Abuse Me

I was puzzled first time I heard the song: “Jesus use me, oh Lord, Don’t abuse me,” of course I found out that the real words were “Oh Lord, don’t refuse me.” But not so strange since when I was a little girl, and my mother called me “Leenie“, so when they sang, “Leenie on the Everlasting Arms”, I was always embarrassed, thinking that they whole church was singing about ME! There is always, “Bringing in the Sheets“, along with Shadrag, Meshack and a Billy Goat, I promise you I thought all those things.

My misunderstanding those things did no harm because it didn’t matter, but we as adults “hear” things everyday without even thinking like those stupid, cute, childish things were really what I thought I was hearing!

I am sure I have told you about informing a group of minister’s wives that my parents were not really married, boy that one cost me a big old spanking and the time I locked the lady and her little girl out of the car because I didn’t want to take them to church! I was like the “little girl that had a curl (literally) right in the middle of her forehead, and when she was good, she was very, very good, but when she was bad she was HORRID!”

1 Cor. 13: 11-13 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

Love is helping someone when they are down and need a hand-up, it is sharing your last morsel of food because you see there is hunger, whether if is physical, or spiritual food!

1 Cor. 13:3-7 Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.

Now that you’ve read what love is, let’s talk about what it’s not! It is not taking abuse from a person, spouse, boy/girl friend, boss, or friend. Abuse can be more than being physically hit; it can be being ignored, not having your calls returned because your opinion differs from theirs. It can be always expecting you to be the one that changes your plans to fit theirs, It is using you up and spitting you out when they get tired of you, and expecting you to come back as if nothing ever happened when they get bored!

I’m sorry I’m not available for that type of friendship. No one is important enough to take being treated as “less than” for any reason. We were created equal and I intend to remain that way!

I wonder if you have every had any of those things done to you, and then I wonder, have you ever done it to God? He answers prayers, we have protection and healing, blessings on and on, then when the first trial happens, or something goes wrong, we bail out of the friendship with God altogether! Guess what? He doesn’t like it any better than you do!

Pay attention and make sure you are hearing correctly, and if it is bad try to be the person that stops it instead of spreading it further! Don’t pass up an opportunity to thank Him for His goodness, mercy and excellent kindness toward you! Treat God, and each other the way YOU want to be treated!

About harolene

Thank you for stopping by for a visit! If you read my thoughts you will see that I am sometimes serious, at other times sappy or funny, occasionally I am sad and sentimental, but I am always sincere! I am a single mother who raised two children, born ten years apart and different sexes so first it was bows and dolls, pretty dresses and boys! When my son was born it was rough and tumble games, baseball, soccer, wrestling and girls! I am known for my "smile" and for my default answer to any situation, "no problem", which was something I didn't realize I did until it was pointed out to me! I am a moon watcher and a star gazer. I am astounded and feel so small knowing that every creature that has ever walked the face of this earth has gazed upon that same beautiful orb that my eyes can behold on any night when the earth is not wearing her cloak of clouds. My parents have made me the person that I am. Their love, veracity in all areas of life, humor and passion for their work and each other have given me hope that my life can actually be a happy one! Chances are if you are reading this you already know all this but again, I appreciate your stopping by! While you're here hit the "Like" button for me and thanks for checking in!
