Locked and Loaded!

You know I am just a big kid at heart. I have been waiting since this past December to watch the “new Doctor” be un-veiled in the BBC series Doctor Who, of course this would be my grandson’s version of the facts…this is because I “anxiously await” the release of all the Super Hero movies with him, as I did with my own little boy, who is not so little any longer. When I was young Super Heroes were easy, there was only one on TV and that was Superman, portrayed by a less than enthusiastic George Reeves. I understand that when the series finally ended he went into his back yard and set that suit on fire, I was actually disappointed when I learned that because in my eyes George Reeves was Superman. He was resentful of the fact that everyone identified him with that role and I ask, “What better role would he ever have been identified with than the Man of Steel?”

Do you think maybe that is why so many of our heroes today fall? Do they get tired of being the strong Christian, the moral person in the work-place, the student whom every teacher would swear would never cheat, the Pastor who would never steal money or have an illicit affair? We all have within ourselves that voice that speaks to you and tells you that everyone thinks you are a “goody-two-shoes” and you, foolishly I might add, think that you are above temptation. The battle of knowing you will stand when others fall versus the part of yourself that just wants to fail and get it over with.

Samson was an arrogant man, God was always with him, and he was always stronger than his enemies or fierce animals. He judged Israel for twenty years and was King of the hill until in his confidence that he could overcome all odds gave up the secret of his strength to a woman. He let the part of him between his legs rule the part of him that was between his ears and found that his strength had been totally sapped from his body when the final test came. It is to his credit that in the last moments of his life he had regained his humility and asked for God’s help to die while taking a multitude of his enemy with him. My apologies to Samson for being crude, truth be told we have probably all been-there-done-that at one time or other in our life.

Solomon was the King that God honored because when God told him he could ask for anything from Him all he asked for was wisdom to be able to rule God’s people in the honorable way they deserved from their King. God answered him but somehow wisdom only went so far as he filled his palace with women from other countries whom he allowed to bring their strange gods with them.

Judas fought the ultimate battle and his defeat came because of Greed! The greed for power and money made him give up his dear friend, the Lord of Glory and cost him his life.

In one of the Superman movies there is a scene, which to me, shows in a physical sense the battle spiritual battle that rages inside of us. Superman had split into a “good” and a “bad” person with the bad Superman going about doing terrible things that all the people that see it happening cannot believe their hero would do, bottom line the two sides face each other in a junk yard and duke it out! It is all out war with both sides taking turns winning until finally it is over with our hero emerging from the junk as Superman restored to his former glory! He corrected all the bad things that his alter ego had done while the crowd cheering him on! Yeah, my kind of ending!

Yes there have been some of God’s heroes who have fallen but here is what we know, Isaiah 38:17 says, “Indeed it was for my own peace That I had great bitterness; But You have lovingly delivered my soul from the pit of corruption, For You have cast all my sins behind Your back.”  I don’t know about you but that makes me feel pretty good!

Who is winning your battle right now? Confession time, are you putting up decorations for a pity party, which would be so self-indulgent it isn’t even funny? Feel sorry for yourself when there are Christians being starved, abused and be-headed because of their faith while you sit there on your cushy couch?  One of my faults is that I fight fear that something is going to happen that is out of my control, but why should that be a bad thing? We should hope things are out of our control, because we have handed them to God as we are instructed in 1 Peter 5:7 to “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” I hate getting older! Psalm 92:14 “They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing,”

What battle are you standing in the junkyard fighting? Don’t deny it, we are all going through this battle-field together and it is a loaded mine-field of temptations, but I have an answer for that one too! I Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

Are you locked and loaded now? Get out there and fight, Superman!

About harolene

Thank you for stopping by for a visit! If you read my thoughts you will see that I am sometimes serious, at other times sappy or funny, occasionally I am sad and sentimental, but I am always sincere! I am a single mother who raised two children, born ten years apart and different sexes so first it was bows and dolls, pretty dresses and boys! When my son was born it was rough and tumble games, baseball, soccer, wrestling and girls! I am known for my "smile" and for my default answer to any situation, "no problem", which was something I didn't realize I did until it was pointed out to me! I am a moon watcher and a star gazer. I am astounded and feel so small knowing that every creature that has ever walked the face of this earth has gazed upon that same beautiful orb that my eyes can behold on any night when the earth is not wearing her cloak of clouds. My parents have made me the person that I am. Their love, veracity in all areas of life, humor and passion for their work and each other have given me hope that my life can actually be a happy one! Chances are if you are reading this you already know all this but again, I appreciate your stopping by! While you're here hit the "Like" button for me and thanks for checking in!
