Give someone a Merry Christmas

Are you ready for the week we are entering, or like me, are you feeling a little overwhelmed with all the things that need to get done between now and this time next week?

When I was growing up we never had a Christmas tree or spent the holiday in our own home, we were either at my mother’s parent’s home or making a trip to California to visit my dad’s relatives. The first Christmas tree we ever had in our own living room was the one that I bought from the meager 86 dollar a week salary I got working at the corporate offices of John Deere, yes the tractor people! I proudly spent my money for an aluminum Christmas Tree with the revolving light, making its silver branches twinkle with beautiful colors, red, blue, gold, and green, a Barbie doll for my sister, and a basket ball and goal for my brother.

For so many Christmas seasons, I helped put together musical programs, excellent productions and fun banquets. Seems that those days are all gone, but what is left is the real joy of knowing that Jesus came to this earth to become our Savior. He actually gave His life twice, didn’t He? Once when He left the majesty of heaven to come to this earth, and then on the cross, which was His path back to the Father, as He became the supreme sacrifice for us.

As I think about all the Christmas carols, family get-togethers, friends that have died, my own mother going to heaven last year on Christmas Day, and some loved ones just too far away, I can enjoy my memories. I miss many things about the “old days” but I have a wonderful family of my own and the promise of great happiness in my future. God has been so good to me that my heart swells within me in gratitude for His generosity to me.

My hope is that some how, some day, I can make someone’s Christmas special for them so that when they delve into their memories, as I am doing now, they will remember that I helped them have a special day.

Luke 2:6-14 “While they were there, She gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a manger, because there was no room in the inn. There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.” At once a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises joined the angel: Glory to God in the heavenly heights, Peace to all men and women on earth who please him”.

I want to take every opportunity to say Merry Christmas to you and hope that I have inspired you to try to make someone else’s Christmas merry too!

  1. Thank you Harolene, for sharing your PRECIOUS family with us. I know to understand that at this time of year I need to allow extra time for everything.

The memories, sweet in my heart, exist to spur me on to fulfill my purpose and passion for what’s left of my dash, pouring the Love of Jesus into future generations.
