Was it Life Changing?

I am always listening for something that will be encouraging or thought provoking, sometimes I admit I have a little rant but not that often and then only when it is very important (she said with her tongue in her cheek!). Today I thought of several times in my life that things have happened that utterly changed me, not always for the better, but change me it did and it made me wonder, as I was walking around the grocery store dodging all the people in a hurry to get their “milk and bread”, how many of those people had similar experiences, I’m sure every one has. Curious or nosy, I wanted to know.

I have written here about Mrs. Audie Murphy and how she made her own place in the world after her famous war hero/actor husband died. With his death finding her almost penniless and homeless with debtors trying to find her, she got a job in a VA Hospital and became an advocate for the patients. She did a lot of good and was much loved by all the men there, famous now in her own right.

As an aside I have a friend whose husband died of cancer, a man who served his country in the time of the Viet Nam War and if anyone deserved to have health care and preferential treatment it would have been him, yet they had to fight for every single thing they got and were shuttled from one doctor to another making a normal life virtually impossible. Another friend of mine, who also served in Viet Nam and has bone cancer as a result of the Agent Orange, which was sprayed from planes in an effort to kill the thick vegetation in the jungles so the enemy could be seen more clearly, has not been able to receive the treatment he needed from the VA either! I would say these men who went around the world and fought a war and then came home to demonstrations and criticism deserve to be treated with more honor than they are at receiving present. I would say we need more advocates to take a stand and help them! I do understand that the V.A. is undergoing some changes and found over eight thousand records that have not been processed by anyone and they are trying to rectify this injustice.

But I digress, the point is that Mrs. Murphy had a life-changing incident and instead of letting it ruin her she did something that made her stronger and helped others along the way, I say, “Good for her!”

There are many success stories like that one and we see people in the Bible stories that make the point also.

Noah built an ark and weathered the storm, Jonah took the ride of death for three days in the belly of a great fish and when he was literally vomit on the shore of Nineveh evangelized them and saved the whole land from destruction at the hand of God. Daniel proved his faith in God after he was thrown in the den of hungry lions and had a little visit with them all night without becoming their supper. Just know this, and yes I know it is cliché´ but true, there is no victory without having to fight a battle my friend!

If you ever receive a blessing and a promise you can bet your bottom dollar that the devil heard it when you did and will try to fight you to the point that you give up right before the answer or blessing over takes you. Yes overtakes! Deuteronomy 28:2 “And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God” All of the wonderful things you can expect follow this statement, read it for yourself!

Can you name a time or an incident in your life that basically changed your destiny?

Romans 8:26-28 tells us this: “Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

I am counting on that promise with all of my little heart knowing that everything that has happened in my life has made me who I am today and that it is all in the great big capable hand of God!
