Fa la la la la la la la la

Deck the halls with boughs of holly fa la la la la la la la la.. Tis the season to be jolly, OK you know the rest of the song but what in the world made me start to sing that to myself tonight as if I were a child that needed the comfort of rocking itself to sleep while holding it’s favorite toy. There are times when we need the comfort that the warm and comforting hand of our parent when we were young that made us feel all was right with the world. I think I am in one of those times right now and with my dad once so powerful both in the physical and spiritual sense being gone and my mother, his sidekick, lover and wife of seventy years gone where do I turn?

Psalm 121: “I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains. He won’t let you stumble; your Guardian God won’t fall asleep. Not on your life! Israel’s Guardian will never doze or sleep. God’s your Guardian, right at your side to protect you—Shielding you from sunstroke, sheltering you from moonstroke. God guards you from every evil; he guards your very life. He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now, He guards you always.”

You want to be strong because people are looking to you to say what needs to be done next and how can you tell them when you don’t know yourself? You have to do what I heard my dad say so many times at home and over the pulpit, he would say he would grab himself by the nap of the neck, take himself to the nearest mirror, look at himself straight in the eyes and have a little talk with the person that was causing him so much trouble!

What it all comes to is this, when a person is determined to give you trouble by judging your motives when you are doing what you know is right then whose fault is it if they misunderstand? You have to just leave it with God because you will never be able to defend yourself out of a problem. I find that it is hard to have a one sided argument, and if they throw something at you just don’t catch it, let it fall to the ground.

One of my problems has always been that I took the words to the song “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me” seriously but instead of letting Jesus calm the storm in my life and bring the peace I tried to fix it myself and I have found that does no good what-so-ever.

There is an old hymn that speaks to our “soul” man, written by Lucie Campbell-Williams: “He’ll Understand and say Well Done”, If when you give Him the best of your service, Telling the world that the Savior has come. Be not dismayed if men don’t believe you, He’ll understand and say, “Well done.” Oh when I come to the end of my journey, Weary of life and the battle is won bearing the staff and the cross of redemption, He’ll understand and say, “Well done.”  Seems like “Sister Lucie” might have had those same feelings when she wrote this song!  But let’s go to the scriptures for our hope!

Matthew 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” With me, He just has to keep up with the COLOR of my hair! Psalm 147:2-6 “He heals the heartbroken and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and assigns each a name. Our Lord is great, with limitless strength; we’ll never comprehend what he knows and does. God puts the fallen on their feet again and pushes the wicked into the ditch.

Sometimes it just has to be enough to know that God knows what we have done, and sometimes (if we listen to gossip about ourselves) what we have NOT done. He is our righteous judge and knows all things! Next time Satan, or any of his helpers, tries to put you down or make you feel less than, shove the words to these scriptures down his throat! These scriptures let me know that one day God will look at me, recognize all the good I have done, forget all the bad I have done, and say “Well done, my good and faithful servant! Enter in!” If you ever think God doesn’t know ALL about you, go read…

Psalm 139:1-6 God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand.  I’m an open book to you; even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking. You know when I leave and when I get back; I’m never out of your sight. You know everything I’m going to say before I start the first sentence. I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too— your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful— I can’t take it all in! Verse 12: Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I’m immersed in the light!” It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you.”

My closing thought is that we should “Dwell in the secret place of the Most High” (Psalm 91) and look up, God knows exactly where you are fa la la la la la la la la!

About harolene

Thank you for stopping by for a visit! If you read my thoughts you will see that I am sometimes serious, at other times sappy or funny, occasionally I am sad and sentimental, but I am always sincere! I am a single mother who raised two children, born ten years apart and different sexes so first it was bows and dolls, pretty dresses and boys! When my son was born it was rough and tumble games, baseball, soccer, wrestling and girls! I am known for my "smile" and for my default answer to any situation, "no problem", which was something I didn't realize I did until it was pointed out to me! I am a moon watcher and a star gazer. I am astounded and feel so small knowing that every creature that has ever walked the face of this earth has gazed upon that same beautiful orb that my eyes can behold on any night when the earth is not wearing her cloak of clouds. My parents have made me the person that I am. Their love, veracity in all areas of life, humor and passion for their work and each other have given me hope that my life can actually be a happy one! Chances are if you are reading this you already know all this but again, I appreciate your stopping by! While you're here hit the "Like" button for me and thanks for checking in!

Love you, I am always grateful to read your blog here. Your Dad was so right…that person in the mirror is the source of all my choices, hence all consequences are her responsibility. Good night, my friend. Fa la la la la la la la la la.
