We all know the National debt is so big that our great-grandchildren will still be paying it! All we can do is pay our taxes, and hope for the best. What about our personal finances? More houses being sold on the courthouse steps because people are out of work and don’t have the money to make their payments! Our credit card debt Phenomenal! So why are we sending so much money, that we don’t have? I mentioned a “hole in your soul” this week in reference to looking for love and settling for the wrong person. Spending money is just another way to try and fill that void in our life and all we do is dig ourselves into a financial pit we can’t climb out, I think the term is “Retail Therapy”. What are you looking for? The Apostle Paul: Philippians 4:10-13 I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
We get used to spreading the balm of a new piece of jewelry, or some other “thing”, to make ourselves feel better, all over our wounded feelings hoping for that little “high” that will make us feel better, about ourselves! I’ll tell you one on me. When my divorce was filed, I was feeling everything from lousy to less than. I went into a little store in the Galleria and there saw a pair of earrings. They were costume, to be sure, but they cost $93. and for me that is a lot to pay for a pair of costume earrings, then I saw a pink silk blouse, it was $100., now remember this was 1986 so that was even more money than it is today. I bought them both! I told myself “I deserved them”, and when the bill came I was very sorry. My point is this, the euphoria I felt from buying them soon faded and I only felt sorry. It didn’t solve my divorce problems, it didn’t make me younger or prettier I was still the same only with the added burden of the bill. First step when you are lousy and less than, is to go to the One person who loves you more than anything else, that is your Creator, God. Jeremiah 33:3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.
When you can’t talk to anyone else, you can always go to Him; Jesus Christ is a friend that is closer than a brother.
