Christmas Memories

With Christmas, which is also my birthday, only a few days away, I have been thinking back over birthdays from times past. I have been sitting here looking at the Christmas trees, one an aluminum tree which is a throw back to earlier days and one a beautiful flocked tree, both beautifully decorated, and thinking back to one very special Christmas tree.  Philippians 4:19 For my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus was proven to us over and over again. I thought of the Christmas Day we spent going to South Georgia for a family funeral, a cousin so distant that I didn’t know him, had taken the greatest gift that God gives to us, his life. I remembered working for John Deere, making eighty-six dollars a week which I proudly spent for the aluminum Christmas Tree with the revolving light, making it’s silver branches twinkle with beautiful colors, red, blue, gold, and green, a Barbie doll for my sister and a basketball for my brother. There were many Christmas seasons that I helped put together musical programs, excellent dramatic productions and fun banquets, those days are all gone but what is left is the real joy of knowing that Jesus did actually come to this earth to become our Savior. He actually gave His life twice, didn’t He? Once when He left the majesty of heaven to come to this earth, and then on the cross, which was His path back to the Father, as He became the supreme sacrifice for us.

As I think about the Christmas Carols, family get-togethers, friends that have died, and some just too far away, I enjoy the memories. I miss many things about the “old days” but now I have my daughter who as a wonderful husband, a sixteen-year old son high on learning how to drive, and a daughter who is doing well in the workplace as a dental assistant. I also have a son, who is a successful Chiropractor and his beautiful wife and I am very grateful. My hope is that I will be able to make their Christmas as special as ones I remember from so long ago.

Luke 2:6-14 While they were there, She gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a manger, because there was no room in the inn. There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.” At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises: Glory to God in the heavenly heights, Peace to all men and women on earth who please him.

Merry Christmas to you!

About harolene

Thank you for stopping by for a visit! If you read my thoughts you will see that I am sometimes serious, at other times sappy or funny, occasionally I am sad and sentimental, but I am always sincere! I am a single mother who raised two children, born ten years apart and different sexes so first it was bows and dolls, pretty dresses and boys! When my son was born it was rough and tumble games, baseball, soccer, wrestling and girls! I am known for my "smile" and for my default answer to any situation, "no problem", which was something I didn't realize I did until it was pointed out to me! I am a moon watcher and a star gazer. I am astounded and feel so small knowing that every creature that has ever walked the face of this earth has gazed upon that same beautiful orb that my eyes can behold on any night when the earth is not wearing her cloak of clouds. My parents have made me the person that I am. Their love, veracity in all areas of life, humor and passion for their work and each other have given me hope that my life can actually be a happy one! Chances are if you are reading this you already know all this but again, I appreciate your stopping by! While you're here hit the "Like" button for me and thanks for checking in!
