My letter from God

I was listening to a song today, the words were beautiful, “Peace shall come, Quiet as the morn, Bathed in dew, Like a day newborn, Let not your heart be troubled, Never be afraid, For thy God has promised, Through the dark to make a way.” At the end of one of the verses Gloria Gaither reads a “letter” from God to us, hearing her read it touched me and made me “Selah” or “stop and think on these things”.

I wrote once about what God might say if He sent a text to me, now I was wondering what He might say in a letter. Yes I can imagine getting a letter from Him because I feel like I know Him up close and personal, no not because I have been the poster child for perfection, far from it, but because I believe that as Jesus was dying on the cross and looked down through the ages, he saw me sitting here in my daddy’s old T-shirt with my computer on my lap and loved me just the way I was, warts and all!

The text I imagined was “stop stressing and worrying over everything!” Of course, and that is scriptural isn’t it? “Casting all your care on Him for He cares for you” 1Peter 5:7 That being true, why be unhappy and fret about things we have no control over? One thing I have had to learn is that when there is nothing I can do about a situation I hold my hands palms up and mentally stack all those things I can’t handle on them and then lift my hands to present them to God to let Him handle them for me!

We worry about our homes, our jobs, our relationships but when it comes right down to it we just need to remember, Psalm 127:1-2If God doesn’t build the house, the builders only build shacks. If God doesn’t guard the city, the night watchman might as well nap. It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don’t you know he enjoys giving rest to those he loves?  King James says, “Give His beloved sleep.”

Isn’t it nice to know we are the beloveds of the Lord? Then let me ask you this, “Why are you walking the floor at night instead of sleeping? Psalm 37:1-4 “Don’t bother your head with braggarts or wish you could succeed like the wicked. In no time they’ll shrivel like grass clippings and wilt like cut flowers in the sun. Get insurance with God and do a good deed, settle down and stick to your last. Keep Company with God, get in on the best. Open up before God, keep nothing back; he’ll do whatever needs to be done. He’ll validate your life in the clear light of day and stamp you with approval at high noon.” Verse 4 King James says: “Delight yourself also in the Lord: and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” The desires of my heart? That’s what it says! Verse 39 of that Psalm says: “But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. 40. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked and save them, because they trust in Him.”

I guess then my letter would say, “I already told you to quit worrying and stressing, I am reminding you of that and saying to be at peace, I have got everything that concerns you under control, Your heavenly Father, God”

So back to the words of the song, “Peace shall come, Quiet as the morn, Bathed in dew, Like a day newborn, Let not your heart be troubled, Never be afraid, For thy God has promised, Through the dark to make a way.”
