When you are happy you feel like you can accomplish anything! If I am feeling a little blue I don’t want to clean house, cook, I don’t want to do anything, but let some little thing happen that lights a spark inside of me and suddenly I am Superman! Reminds me of something the Psalmist King said: Psalm 18:25-29 The good people taste your goodness, The whole people taste your health, The true people taste your truth, The bad ones can’t figure you out. You take the side of the down-and-out, but the stuck-up you take down a peg. Suddenly, God, you floodlight my life; I’m blazing with glory, God’s glory! I smash the bands of marauders, I vault the highest fences. David must have really been “feeling his oats!” You can’t accomplish any of your goals until you have turned everything over to God and just trusted Him completely to get you out of whatever pit you have let yourself fall into!
Jonah was asked by God to go and preach to Nineveh, he just couldn’t see himself doing that, so he ran away! Got on a ship and because of his disobedience everyone on the ship suffered a terrible storm! Long story short, Jonah ended up in the ocean and was swallowed by a great fish, we assume it was a whale. While he was there in the belly of hell, he prayed a prayer that redeemed him and he got a free ride to the destination God meant for him to go in the first place! Jonah 2: When my life was slipping away, I remembered God, and my prayer got through to you, made it all the way to your Holy Temple. Those who worship hollow gods, god-frauds, walk away from their only true love. But I’m worshiping you, God, calling out in thanksgiving! And I’ll do what I promised I’d do! Salvation belongs to God!”When Jonah was vomited up on the shore of Nineveh, he came out running and preaching!
If God has something specific for you to do you had better get on with it before you end up in your own “belly of hell”. Proverbs 18:14 A healthy spirit conquers adversity, but what can you do when the spirit is crushed? Proverbs 15:13 A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day. Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones. Looks like to me that being happy is the way to go since sadness gives you a sad heart and dry bones! How can you become happy? Nehemiah 8:10 he spoke to the people and gave them some advice maybe we should take: He continued, “Go home and prepare a feast, holiday food and drink; and share it with those who don’t have anything: This day is holy to God. Don’t feel bad. The joy of God is your strength! How can you be happy when you’ve had a terrible day/week/month? Only one-way I know 1 Peter 5:7 So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.
If you’re in a hell situation, high water, a pit, or just depressed, “Wrap it all up in the rags of your life and take it to the cross. Let Christ make something beautiful out of your life!”
