It’s got to come from the heart

If you do something for someone, unless you are being blackmailed or held at gunpoint to do whatever it is you have done, please in the name of all that is holy don’t throw it up to that person as if they owe you. I have done many things for many people that didn’t turn out to be real friends did it hurt? Yes it did, but I learned a lesson from my own father who reminded me that the Bible says:

Jeremiah 17:5 Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man
and makes flesh his strength,
Whose heart departs from the Lord

This all came to me this evening when someone shared a note they had received from someone they had loved and trusted, throwing up all they had done without thanks for anything that had come their way. It made me physically ill, been there, done that.

I think that Mark Twain put it in words and then country singer Don Williams, with a few liberties, sang it this way, “You’ve gotta sing like you don’t need the money, love like you’ve never been hurt you’ve gotta dance like nobody’s watching, it’s got to come from the heart if you want it to work.”

All I’m saying is this, if do something for anyone don’t do it for show, don’t expect any return and be happy you were able to help even if they don’t say thank you! No matter what happens remember this, God knows and that’s all that counts.

It’s got to come from the heart if you want it to work.
