We see from looking at the story of Lot and his family being rescued from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah that they were told, “Don’t look back!” They proceeded to leave, but it tugged at Lot’s wife heart to leave her home and she turned for one last look and it tuned out to be her last look at anything, ever!
We must look forward to what it is that God has for us in our life.
Anything is possible; you think the doors have been closed? If so, God always opens a window, climb out of it and be free to be all YOU can be. The Apostle Paul was born as a citizen of Rome and had sat at the feet of the best teachers of that time learning all the laws of Moses; he was a Pharisee of the highest kind! I would say he might have started out a little “self-righteous” but was quickly humbled when Jesus appeared to him and called him into His service. Once he met Jesus, he was never, ever the same! He suffered more than he had prospered and I know that he must have been tempted to look back. One day as he was talking to a crowd he spoke these words recorded in Philippians chapter 3 “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.”
King James says it this way: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye were otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
However you read it, the message is clear, no turning back!
Whatever you do, eat your dessert first, and make the most of our day today!
