The Best Thanksgiving Prayer !

Thanksgiving 2018 is this coming week, unbelievable that this year has passed so swiftly, it reminds me of the scripture, Job 7:6 My days come and go swifter than the click of knitting needles, and then the yarn runs out—an unfinished life! I thought of different prayers of thanksgiving to God from the Bible and the one that always comes to the top of my mind is the one that Jonah prayed from the belly of the great fish. He was in desperate need of a rescue; he raised his voice to God and said,

When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple. “Those who regard worthless idols forsake their own Mercy. But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord”

To me the phrase that stands out in this prayer is when he says the words, “But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of Thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed.”

Jonah had disobeyed the command of the Lord and got swallowed by a great fish for his effort. He was wrapped in seaweed at the bottom of the ocean and cried to God. He offered thanksgiving and then promised to do what ever it was that God had asked for him to do, and he did! The fish swam to the shore of the place he needed to be and spit him out!

I hope that if I find myself in a situation where I find myself trapped in the belly of a great fish of my own making by being disobedient, I pray that God will hear me when I offer the sacrifice of Thanksgiving and promise to fulfill the vow, whatever that vow may be, that I have promised to my God.

As you sit around your Thanksgiving table this year thank God for His protection and guidance, thank Him for protecting you from dangers both seen and unseen, and ask him to give you angel protection to guard you and keep you in all your ways!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all
