Commandments or Suggestions # 10 has arrived! Before I say anything else I would like to comment that if everyone followed these ten laws/suggestions/commandments there would be no sin or trouble in the world! Really? Yes! It is all about honor, respect, rest, truth and caring for each other as well as our own self. The following is an important scripture from the New Testament where Jesus references the Commandments:
Matthew 22: 34-40 “One of their religion scholars spoke for them, posing a question they hoped would show him up: “Teacher, which command in God’s Law is the most important?” Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”
Luke chapter 6:31-34 Jesus puts another emphasis on how we should be and it also lines up with the Commandments : “Here is a simple rule of thumb for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you; then grab the initiative and do it for them! If you only love the lovable, do you expect a pat on the back? Run-of-the-mill sinners do that. If you only help those who help you, do you expect a medal? Garden-variety sinners do that. If you only give for what you hope to get out of it, do you think that’s charity? The stingiest of pawnbrokers does that.
I have let the scriptures do the talking tonight because there’s no way I could state it better, right? And when you read this last commandment you will see that everything Jesus said in these two passages really includes this one also! So what is that 10th Commandment?
Exodus 20:17 “You must not be envious of your neighbor’s house, or want to sleep with his wife, or want to own his slaves, oxen, donkeys, or anything else he has.”
