April 24, a day of remembrance

Today, April 24, is Armenian Memorial Day, the day we remember those Armenian ancestors martyred because of their belief that Jesus was the one and only Son of the true and living God Almighty.

The Bible says in Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Any or all of us can approach God and He will give us an answer.

So what it is my point?

Being raised in the home of a pastor, one who really cared for the people in his congregation, I heard prayers for parishioner’s requests and as I matured and people began to ask me to pray for them I heard even more. So as a prayer meeting leader, Sunday school teacher and a generally compassionate person I have heard every request you can think of, so very few things can surprise me. No this is not where I begin to list things that seemed insane or less important or just plain stupid it is where I am going to be amazed that we still ask for such simple things, things that we can do for ourselves or are just plain greedy. When I came to the realization that God loved every one the same I knew that God was not going to answer the prayer you may pray for Him to give you someone else’s husband or wife, or steal money from another person or a company so that you can have it. I wonder if the prayers that are going up from all of us comfortable Christians in the USA concentrate on what we want rather than asking for a closer walk with Him, or peace for our Nation and then there is the little matter of the massacre that is going on in the Middle East right now of Christians. There are children being beheaded, their heads placed on poles so that people will see what their faith has brought them and be afraid to stand up for their Christian beliefs. I have talked many times about the attempt at a complete Genocide of the Armenian people by the Muslims in Turkey but that was back in 1915 so it is easy to say that the modern Muslim is not responsible for them and that is true, however they are now making their own sacrifices in the name of Allah while we are here in the comfort of our air conditioned and heated homes with plenty of food in our pantry and a school system where our children can get an education. We are not noticing that our freedoms are slipping away. For those of you who have read the last book of the Bible, Revelation, and read about the “anti-Christ” you may have said “I will never take the mark of the Beast”. OK I hear you, but when it comes to the day that you turn on your computer and an image appears and you are not allowed access to your information or your money unless you take an oath or pledge of loyalty to a certain person, one that doesn’t appear to have horns or isn’t breathing fire you may think there is no harm in it. Have you thought it would be a good idea for a baby to have a “chip” put in him at the hospital when he is born so that “identity theft” will become impossible? Or get one in your own hand with all your information on it for the same reason?

Go ahead and think what you will my friend, think that I have lost my mind and sound like a fanatic I don’t care I just know that it is coming like an express train coming down the track that we are standing right in the middle of with no one telling us to get off before we get run over. I am standing here waving a warning flag and saying that our prayers need to be GOD HELP US!We need to pray for those that are suffering and losing their life because they claim Jesus Christ as the Son of God.

Is it too late? I don’t know, but 2 Chronicles 7:14 says,  “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

There have been some that have taken offense when I used that scripture and think there is nothing wrong in our land, well sweetheart all you have to do is watch the evening news and you will hear all you need to know about what is very wrong with us.

I am not pointing a finger at anyone except myself, my prayer always starts with “Help me first” and today when I heard myself saying that to the Lord I felt ashamed because He has already given me more than I could ever deserve.

Are there things that I need? Yes of course! Are they things I can live without? Absolutely! So I am turning my eyes toward the Christians who are being told to change their faith or get out, as if they had a place to go, and the ones who are daily being martyred and joining the Cloud of Witnesses in the heavens!

James 4:1-3 Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. You lust for what you don’t have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn’t yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it. You wouldn’t think of just asking God for it, would you? And why not? Because you know you’d be asking for what you have no right to. You’re spoiled children, each wanting your own way.

I think that scripture says it all. If you think this is overkill just love me anyway, after you have prayed for me.
