This morning when I got up to make coffee at 6 AM Atlanta time I turned on the television to catch the morning news and I heard the President of the United States making a speech that made me proud. Behind him were 60 elderly War Horses, the men who had been among the troops who ran onto the shores of the Omaha Beach in their successful raid to free France from the iron hand of the Nazi regime.
Quoted from the USA Today news source:
‘You are among the very greatest Americans who will ever live’
Trump thanked the 170 assembled World War II veterans in attendance at the event, including 60 who shared the stage with him and other global leaders. This year’s commemoration is expected to be one of the last to include veterans in attendance, as an 18-year-old on D-Day would be 93 today.
“You are among the very greatest Americans who will ever live,” Trump said. “You’re the pride of our nation. You are the glory of our republic. And we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
After the speech there was a 21 gun salute, I had tears in my eyes.
Words penned by Samuel Francis Smith began to sing in my brain as I stood in my living room still in my nightclothes with my hand over my heart watching those old soldiers,
“My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty of thee I sing. Land where our fathers died, land of the Pilgrims pride, from every mountain side let freedom ring.”
In my heart and mind this is the solution to the problems of our country:
2 Chronicles 7:14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
I am proud to be an American, God bless America!
Thank you so much! I too, am very proud to be an American.
