Ev’ry body wants to go to heaven

I heard a song that was humorous, the singer was singing in a nasal tone and plunking his guitar, “Everybody wants to go to heaven, nobody wants to go now.”

It brought to mind a little story my dad used to tell: “The preacher was preaching about heaven. He asked the congregation to raise their hand if they wanted to go to heaven. Everyone in the congregation had raised hands except one old gentleman who was sitting on the front row. “What’s the matter John, you don’t want to go to heaven?” The old man looked up and said, “Well Preacher, I do but I didn’t know you were getting up a trip for tonight!”

I imagine that we all want to go heaven but also have that emotion about not getting up that trip for today! As people get older it is more on their mind because they feel the time for the “trip” coming closer. I noticed that with my mother. She had never talked about heaven or dying until she got older, then she would often ask, “Where do you think heaven is?”

Well wherever it is I do want to go, and I want to live a good happy life while I am still here on this earth. There are a couple of scriptures I want to share with you…

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run, with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith”

I know they are there waiting and encouraging us to “keep on keepingon”

Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
