When my grandmother Mushegan died, my grandfather married a lady named Alice. Alice was a widowed doctor’s wife from Boston and had that wonderful Bostonian accent. It was hard for the family to accept this new lady such a vast contrast between this petite lady wearing red lipstick and my grandmother who bore nine children at home, never wore make-up but always wore an apron. Alice never had a child, but when my grandfather married her he wanted the family to call her Mom, quite a pill for most of them. One thing that none of us understood was that he always referred to her as “Mother to the Nations.” What that meant, I don’t know. Alice succumbed to cancer and on her headstone was engraved: “Alice Mushegan, What a Mother is to the Nations”.Eve the wife of Adam, and Sarah the wife of Abraham were both called “Mother of the Nations“,
I decided to “Google” it and found this poem written about “The Great War” (1914-1918) here are two verses from it:
So the Mother of Nations has risen in might At the word of the onward call; She has shaken her banners forth to the light, And marched to the front of the people’s fight Like the van of a tidal wall. And the future shall say of her sons who died wherever their feet have trod with millions of comrades in arms allied; “They cast the treasures of earth aside and marched to the goals of God.” Albert D. Watson.
Those beautiful verses are speaking of our great Mother Nation, America.
As mothers and fathers today, are we protecting our rights the way a mother protects her child?
Do we stand up for what we believe and the principles for which our forefathers died?
Words penned by Samuel Francis Smith have begun to sing in my brain…
“My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty of thee I sing. Land where our fathers died, land of the Pilgrims pride, from every mountain side let freedom ring.”
In my heart and mind this is the solution to the problems of our country:
2 Chronicles 7:14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
I am proud to be an American, God bless America!
GOD BLESS AMERICA LET FREDOM RAIGHN
