People make the mistake of trying to interpret the Bible to say what they want it to say, and there are a lot of ways to screw the scriptures around to match your theology.
Have at it.
We will all stand for our self, by our self at the Great White Judgement Throne. Then and only then will we all know which of us are right and which of us are wrong.
Until that time, I say we abide in peace.
I will not try to convert you but know you will not convert me either.
One night as I was sitting on the front row at church listening to my dad expound the scriptures, he used a scripture about being “Chosen“.
John 15:16-17 “You didn’t choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won’t spoil. As fruit bearers, whatever you ask the Father in relation to me, he gives you.” But remember the root command: Love one another.
As I looked at the scripture on his printed sheet, I noticed verse 17… To give you the first part of that scripture without emphasizing that verse is like giving someone a safe with treasure locked inside and not giving them the combination or a key to the lock.
Matthew chapter 6, Jesus gives the disciples a formula for a prayer, we call it the Lord’s Prayer. He preceded the actual prayer by saying (Vs 8) For your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask Him. At the end of the prayer, verses 14,15, He gives a condition for answered prayer: For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Then in Mark we are given the power to perform the miracle of moving a mountain with this condition:
11:22-24 Jesus was matter-of-fact: “Embrace this God-life. Really embrace it, and nothing will be too much for you. This mountain, for instance: Just say, ‘Go jump in the lake’—no shuffling or shilly-shallying—and it’s as good as done. That’s why I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you’ll get God’s everything. OK there is your promise, now here comes the condition: And when you assume the posture of prayer, remember that it’s not all asking. If you have anything against someone, forgive—only then will your heavenly Father be inclined to also wipe your slate clean of sins.”
I am not going to sit here and sound pious and tell you that you must forgive and how easy it is to do it because if I did, I would be the biggest hypocrite and you would know it for sure. The fact is this: There are some people that have treated me so rudely and are so bad and so deceitful and seem to get by with it…(are you still with me?) that I actually catch myself resenting the fact that I know God loves them as much as He loves me!
Do you still like me a little?
Sometimes just knowing that God knows, has to be enough and there is nothing we can do about it on this earth without committing a sin ourselves!
Look at it this way, if you hear two people having a knock down and drag out fight and they are equally involved chances are that you will not intervene, at least I wouldn’t, BUT if you saw one person towering over the other or hitting them with the other not hitting them in return, or saying nasty things and the other not retaliating, chances are that you WILL step in (I have done it) and take up for the (oh here it comes again) under-dog! Maybe God, as our Heavenly Father, is the same; He will only step in if we keep our mouth out of it!
