These are a few (more) of my favorite things

I have written lists of my favorite things in several blogs. One thing always on my list are songs from “The Sound of Music”. One of those is a song which talks about favorite things and it’s sung during a thunderstorm.

I guess we all have thunderstorms of one kind or another in our lives. The past few nights we have had some pretty terrific thunderstorms here and I felt like one of the children did in the movie and wanted to say, “Is this a good time to sing about our favorite things?”

I started thinking about the favorite things concept again.

One of my favorite things is hearing from one of you, which I often do but today I got a note that was so special I want to share it with you:

Over the years I have learned so much reading your blog. Pretty often I steal them and post them in other forum rooms. Now in the other rooms they all think I am highly intelligent; could be at a Genius level, especially in Christian knowledge. I don’t think I ever thanked you for that. For a while I was being hounded by that Menses group but since I couldn’t spell it they wouldn’t approve my membership. Anyway, I have learned a lot. Please don’t ask me what because I am getting forgetful and have to read things many times. You be blessed and have a super day.”

Another most favorite thing is the scripture that tells me God’s mercies are new every morning, He knows I need it!

Lamentations 3: 19-24

I’ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness,
the taste of ashes, the poison I’ve swallowed.
I remember it all—oh, how well I remember—
the feeling of hitting the bottom.
But there’s one other thing I remember,
and remembering, I keep a grip on hope:

God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out,
his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.
They’re created new every morning.
    How great your faithfulness!
I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over).
    He’s all I’ve got left
.

Next time I list my favorite things, that little note and that scripture will be #1 and 1A! What is the number one thing on your list of favorite things?

  1. Just like Oprah’s Shows about HER Favorite things… the list never ends.
Often, even within a single ‘category’ it can be almost impossible to ‘Pick just One’…
It can be almost like picking “Your Favorite Child” out of 4 or more kids… (of course, when we have just one, it should be an easy answer)
Someone posted on FaceBook a couple of days ago.. “What is your Favorite Movie”? Just ONE ??!! There must be At Least 25 that I could watch over and over… Favorite Song..? >> Christian song” ?? or Song from the 70’s ?? or Classical song..? or Country Song..? or Favorite Bealtes or Elvis Song..? or Favorite Hymnal..? I can’t pick just one, from each of those categories… much least One Single Favorite Song out of ALL songs…
But Yes… Thinking of GOOD thinks and experiences are a Great Way to lift out thoughts to Positive and Pleasant, rather than Negative and sad. Depression is “self-feeding” because when you get depressed about one thing… then your mind walks into a dark place, and you keep thinking of more and more negative things.
Like the Friend you mentioned, I read most of your postings… (FaceBook ‘bots’ sometimes don’t think we are Friends, and don’t share your postings on my page…) And your messages Always stir at least a few minutes of thought on your subject.

** btw — I doubt your Friend will get much response from any of the MENSA groups based of “Genius Knowledge” of Scripture and Christian Life… The Vast majority of members are ‘secular’ (agnostic) and everything is about ‘provable science’ … I have ‘applied’ to 3 different groups, passed the ‘Entry Exam’ and visited several meetings… But I never stayed around long enough to get passed “New Member” status, because they were all BORING.. NO Sense of Humor and closed-minded, and frequently very ‘Elitist’ and judgmental of those who ‘were not as smart as them’ and didn’t have at least a Doctorate from some “well-respected university” … They didn’t seem to understand the difference in a ‘collection of memorized information’ versus the Knowledge of how to process and USE information and ‘create’ new knowledge by combining information … So I lost interest, and soon stopped attending.

    1. Are you still into your art? You were fabulous as I remember!! I would love to be able to draw or paint, then that would be a favorite thing! 🙂 ❤
