When I was a little girl there was a “soap opera” named “Search for Tomorrow“… then there is the famous line from, “Gone With the Wind“, “after all, tomorrow is another day”.
Those thoughts are fine for a novel or a movie, but in real life if we are always searching for tomorrow or putting off things, we need to take care of, or not face our problems so that we can find solutions… then we are not really living our life we are just going through the motions and hoping we can stay a step ahead of the demons that are chasing us.
Joshua addressed the children of Israel and gave them hope about tomorrow telling them… Joshua 3:5 “Sanctify yourselves. Tomorrow GOD will work miracle-wonders among you.”
I get up every morning looking for miracle-wonders from God, but then I think about the fact that the house I live in is paid for, that is a miracle, my children are healthy and happy thanks to God’s miracle working power, taking a deep breath and feeling invigorated by the cold Fall air is a miracle, turning a faucet and getting hot and cold water would have been a miracle to my great grandparents, or using a small instrument in our hand to call loved ones, be able to see their faces on a little screen, watch sports events and news event from all over the globe in the instant they happen…those are all miracles too!
My point in naming some things you might think are mundane is that we take so many things in our lives for granted.
This has been a week of thanksgiving and I have been reading status statements naming various things people were thankful for…
I say let us give thanks to God the Creator of our life every day as we wake and see the morning light; every time we are able to cook or eat a meal, we need to remember all the people in this world who stand in lines for one simple bowl of rice which is supposed to feed them for a whole day.
In Proverbs 27:1 we are cautioned not to take tomorrow for granted, “Don’t brashly announce what you’re going to do tomorrow; you don’t know the first thing about tomorrow.”
How many times I have heard people make plans for their future only to have their life cut short in death, or drastically changed by a dreadful accident.
We pray for angel protection every day, Psalm 91:11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Tomorrow you could be let go from your job, that’s the negative, or you could go in to find a bonus check or a pay raise on your check,
only God knows
and worrying about tomorrow doesn’t change a thing!
James 4:13-15 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
I say this, tomorrow I will not dread what the future may hold, we are not promised tomorrow so I will be happy for today and say, “If it is God’s will, tomorrow is… another day!
