I’m sure you have had the same thoughts today; how did we get here so fast? I stated in another post that I had decided to make last year drag slowly by taking one day at a time and thoroughly enjoying it, without rushing on to, what’s next? But here I am facing another new year.
Today I am missing my mother very much. Every year from the first of December, she would start to relive the year that she married my father. She remembered all the details from his arrival at the train station in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the day they were again at the Chattanooga Choo Choo station and boarded the train as a newly married couple heading to their new home in Los Angelas.
They met at a church convention, the Church of God General Assembly which was being held that year in Birmingham, Alabama. Within three hours of their meeting, while walking in the park in downtown Birmingham, my dad proposed marriage to her, and she accepted. That was in September, they married in a big church wedding in Cleveland, Tennessee three months later, at exactly midnight on New Year’s Eve. Outside the church as the snow softly fell, the bells began to ring in the new year and Harry and Myrtle were taking their vows in front of a church filled with well-wishers and people who just wanted to see this crazy couple getting married at midnight!
That marriage made me want to have one just like it. They had so much fun together, love, respect, and a spiritual connection that made their union perfect. They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary at midnight as the new year turned to 2013. Daddy went to heaven on the 8th day of May that year and Mother followed him through the golden gates on Christmas Day, 2014.
They are together again.
Tonight I will hear the fireworks heralding 2025 and think of them. I miss them so, but I wish them a happy heavenly anniversary…

thank you for sharing this story with us! They were remarkable, as are you. HAPPY NEW YEAR

I’m having learning curve blues trying to figure out this program…
When I go here it says
“This message cannot be displayed because a problem repeatedly occurred.”
Oh well. Our friendship is definitely a wonderful gift for which I am profoundly grateful. Love and blessings dear friend…
