You ate WHAT?

DSC_0307I am a feeder, if you come to my house, you will eat, whether you want to or not! I enjoy watching as people enjoy what I have made. I am telling you that so that you will know that the incident was not because she was hungry, far from it, I hate taking her to the doctor because I get fussed at for her being over weight!

The Bible is full of references of food, and a really good analogy, “O taste and see that the Lord is good” Psalm 34:8 Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him. Psalm 81:16 “You’ll feast on my fresh-baked bread spread with butter and rock-pure honey.” God fed His people in the wilderness with daily Manna and also Quail for meat, Jesus cooked fish and had it ready when the disciples came upon Him, a birthright was sold for a bowl of red beans, we know that God is a foodie!

Having said all that, you know that if my people are fed well, so are my little four-legged children, better recognized as dogs. They get the best food and treats, plus, and hope the Vet isn’t reading this, food from the table as they sit around with big sad eyes and beg. I know you must be wondering what in the world I’m talking about, it is simple; if my dogs are well fed, why is one of them exhibiting symptoms of something that is called PICA? For two days our “blab” (mix of Lab and Beagle) has eaten some very strange items. She vomited and in it were big pieces of clear tape, shards of wood eaten off the wood on my upstairs banister along with a hair ribbon, a rubber band, and you name it. My question is this, with good food in reach at all times for her, along with fresh water, why would she eat these crazy things?

Aren’t we the same way with God? He answers our prayers, helps us in our every day life, but most important of all, He gave Jesus as the sacrifice, instead of the flesh of bulls, rams, doves, things that were sacrificed and ended up being eaten by the priests. When we receive Communion it is a symbol of eating the Lord’s body and the juice represents the blood of Jesus. Yet, we turn away from His table to the table of the devil for simple, stupid things that will take us back into a life of sin. Proverbs 26:11 As a dog eats its own vomit, so fools recycle silliness. This scripture is referenced and added to in 2 Peter 2:22 If they’ve escaped from the slum of sin by experiencing our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ, and then slid back into that same old life again, they’re worse than if they had never left. Better not to have started out on the straight road to God than to start out and then turn back, repudiating the experience and the holy command. They prove the point of the proverbs, “A dog goes back to its own vomit” and “A scrubbed-up pig heads for the mud.”

There are those who feel that once they have said the “sinner’s prayer” then they are “once saved always saved”, this scripture sets that straight. Being tempted does not mean you have sinned, it’s like birds flying over your head, you just don’t let them stop and make a nest in your hair! Jesus was tempted but was without sin! Let’s take a lesson from my dog, as she has a full plate of food and yet eats garbage and things that will make her sick, let’s not look at the Lord’s Table then turn away from His goodness, mercy and everlasting kindness to us!

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want, He makes me to lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside the still waters, He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name sake, Yea though I walk through the valley and the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me, Your rod and Your staff they comforts me, you prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies and you anoint my head with oil! I’m so happy by cup is running over with joy! Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever,” Psalm 23

Good health and a happy year in 2014!

  1. Hey a question that has been asked for many many years. Why do we turn away from the Lord’s banquet table & eat out of a garbage can? Some people never learn & thus never change. I heard a person say one time that they could not understand this notion of living like a King’s kid. I am a child of the King so why can’t I eat at His table every day? The only person stopping me is ME! I know a lot of people feel unworthy because of what they have done in their life. But when you ask for His forgiveness & He gives it, one must accept it & realize that makes you a King’s kid & all He has is yours.I find that people who can not forgive themself are the ones who have the most trouble with this acceptance. It’s another plot of the enemy to keep that person bond. I wish that more Pastors & teachers would lay this out in as simple terms as possible so those struggling can understand this & be free. I feel I am truly blessed like you I had Bible believing parents who set the living standard in front of me every day by their actions & words. I pray I can be found as worthy as a parent to my two. God bless & have a great day. You are in our prayers every day..

    1. Thank you my friend, to live up to the standard my dad set is my hope and that I, in turn, am leaving such a plan for my own children!
