2 Corinthians 6:14 Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That’s not partnership; that’s war. Is light best friends with dark? Does Christ go strolling with the Devil? Do trust and mistrust hold hands? Who would think of setting up pagan idols in God’s holy Temple? But that is exactly what we are, each of us a temple in whom God lives.
Why do we walk into things that will cause us trouble? Is it because we want to help, please, impress someone? Put someone in our debt? Is it because we are embarrassed to disagree with someone who we have been friends with for a long time, or maybe you just don’t want them to KNOW that you have a different opinion whether it is political or, OMG, spiritually! I hate it most when someone assumes that I believe the way they do when something really is against my moral conviction. So how do you react? Do you speak up, just ignore it, go away, change the subject or really just go along with it? I guess in the course of my lifetime, I have done it all and I am not proud to say that, but it is the truth.
Someone told me once that I had let my ears become “garbage cans” because I would listen to anyone. Well, I don’t really agree with that, but I have probably heard more than I should have, but always for the purpose of taking it to the Lord in prayer. I tend to get myself in the middle of things, someone needs a favor and I am the one that gets put in the position of getting someone to do it for them, or someone is in financial trouble I try to step in, at my own expense, with the end of that hurting my own finances. It is like getting in a car in a minefield, we drive along not seeing where the mines are until we hit one and BOOM we land on our rear, groveling in the mud. Is that pleasing to God? No.
The scripture says not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers; don’t you think that also means people who don’t have as much faith, people who use YOUR faith instead of developing their own?
I really do feel that it is our Christian duty to help people if we have the opportunity and as we can, but the best thing we can do to help someone is to help them learn that the scripture 1 PETER 5:7 Casting all your care on Him because He cares for YOU, really is for EVERY ONE of us.
We will all get caught up in helping too much from time to time, but remember that Jesus gave His life so that we could come to Him with our troubles. If anyone, and in this time of New Age and Inclusion doctrines there are plenty, tries to feed you anything that leads you away from Jesus, don’t walk, RUN from them, don’t read their material or listen to their lies, they are making doctrines that fit their life style.
Galatians 1:7…there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
My purpose here is to think of things that trouble me or that I need to think about and bring it to you, hoping it is something that YOU need TOO!
Sometimes I feel a little over whelmed and think you might also feel that way too! Sometimes we feel that to be Christ-like means we have to do any and every thing that people request of us, but Jesus says: Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you will find rest for your souls. In the Message translation it says it beautifully, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
We find that we should NOT be yoked with the people who load us with burdens, but if we get under the yoke with Jesus, we will find rest for our weary soul!
Get in the yoke with Jesus!
