What do you look like in your mental mirror, or your self image? I was in an office one day where every magazine on the shelf had beautiful women on the cover, some more nude than clothed. Every woman in the office had, obviously, had a little help in the nature department, big lips and boobs to match, wow. The Office Manager was overheard to tell the new Receptionist that she would have to have a complete makeover to work there, and the girl was thrilled, couldn’t wait for it to begin! I found myself wanting to put my shades back on, hold my Kindle in front of my face and sneak out before I was caught, ragged fingernails and all!
We are so aware of beautiful people, they are the ones put on billboards, TV programs and movies to hold a standard by which we feel we have to measure ourselves. Women aren’t the only victims, a man sent a friend request to me, and strangely enough it looked exactly like the actor, Ralph Fiennes, wait, it WAS him, at least it was his picture!
When God gave directions for the building of the Temple, He wanted a giant brass laver there so the Priest could wash their hands and feet before they went in before the altar. It was made of all the brass mirrors, a luxury, from women in the camp who served at the tent doors. The mirrors were kept polished so they could see themselves and make sure they were perfect in the presence of God.
James 1:24 Those who hear the Word of God and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.
We carry hand mirrors, pull down the visor in the car before we get out and then check our reflections in plate-glass windows making sure there is no lipstick on our teeth while men do muscle poses in the mirror when they think no one is watching so they can show off when someone IS, but are you checking the ‘real’ you, the one that God sees?
Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.”
1 Samuel 16:7 God told Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything…God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.”
Ezekiel 36:26 I’ll remove the stone heart from your body and replace it with a heart that’s God-willed, not self-willed. I’ll put my Spirit in you and make it possible for you to do what I tell you and live by my commands.
If your heart is right, you’ll be beautiful in His eyes; and a smile, makes you beautiful to everyone else! (^.^)
