The Blame Game

IMG_2511We had another senseless crime of violence brought by one individual, a pilot who decided to fly an airliner full of souls into the side of a mountain.

People blame drugs when a person overdoses, or guns when someone gets shot, instead of the person that picked up the bottle of pills or the needle or the person that picked up the gun or knife but most of all when something terrible happens people want to blame God, That is just stupid!

Blaming God? That is usually the first and best place to put the blame!

Have you ever watched two children who have gotten in trouble with their parents? When it comes down to “Who did that?” Most likely one will say, “He made me do it”, or “It was her fault”. They are always willing to throw the other “under the bus” to keep from being the one who is punished. In our house I was always the guilty one, because I was the oldest and “should have known better”. I watch enough reality TV to see it happening among adults, just makes me sick. Makes me want to do what my great-grandmother, Minnie Tomberlin, did; when she first saw a TV, a cowboy movie was playing. She stood and looked as they shot at each other, then she saw a bad guy sneaking up behind the good guy and she began to frantically warn him to WATCH OUT, he’s right behind you! She just couldn’t understand why he didn’t hear her! Aren’t we that way with God? Everyone wants to blame war, poverty and sick children on Him instead of where it belongs, which is on us, the citizens of this world! He has given us the power of agreement in prayer to effect change, we just haven’t used it effectively and then we blame Him when things in our life go wrong.

I got a note from someone I want to share with you, see if you can identify with it: “I wanted to say I want the Lord so much in my life, It’s not like He’s not there, I just feel a void. I used to see His awesome power all the time. Used to see it abundantly. Now it just seems like that, that relationship that we had, that power that I saw is a distant memory. For the first time, I wonder if God will come through. Is that wrong. I know He will I just wonder where is His wonder working power? Why and how has the world’s complacency and lack of hope won? Thoughts?”

I decided that honesty was the best policy, my reply: “Let me hit you up with some hard thoughts. What causes two people to grow apart? Number one reason is lack of communication, when you stop talking you grow cold towards each other. It doesn’t mean you don’t love the other person, you just don’t “have anything in common with them anymore”. Number two, like Adam and Eve, when you are doing things that you know this person might not be all that happy with, you tend to hide behind the bushes so they won’t see you, you realize that you are naked and you would rather just be “out of sight, out of mind”. Being covered in the blood of Jesus keeps you from being naked. When we start letting other things become more important than our relationship with our “partner”, in this case God, then that person tends to feel neglected, non-important, so they just quit coming around. If you get in real trouble, as you said, they will help you (this poor man cried and the Lord heard and saved him out of all his troubles, the Psalms) but you don’t feel the closeness of relationship any longer. So how do you get it back? Mend some fences. GO back to where you actually laid down your cross and pick it back up. You know in your heart that I have been perfectly honest with you. I love you and know that you have immense talent and that God has a plan and purpose for your life and I pray that your heart illuminates with that truth. I know persons that want to “give the silent treatment” to someone they are upset with, how can that solve your problem? It doesn’t work with your fellow man and it sure does not work with God! Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.” He’s near you.”

Consider that note as if it were written to you personally, it was.
