Say What?

Communication.

When our babies are born we start trying to find out “what is wrong” with them from the moment they shed their first tear. I read that someone is working on an App. that, when held close to the baby while it is crying, can tell you what is wrong from needing a diaper change to a tummy ache! What makes us think we can successfully communicate with our children when we make so many communication mistakes with our own parents, spouses, fellow workers and even people on the highway! Obviously the first real error in Communication was when Adam and Eve didn’t understand that God set aside one tree in the Garden for them to abstain from, they must have misunderstood Him, because they ate of it!

Confusion of Communication is a curse, Genesis 11:1-9, God confused their speech, which caused them to scatter over the face of the earth, because they were building a Tower for themselves and had completely forgotten their Creator!

Unity of speech is a blessing, Acts 2:1-6, this is where the Holy Spirit came on them and as they were speaking, people from the outside were amazed that they understood as they witnessed to them in their own language!

To communicate well, here are some thoughts: Enter into Communication with love (1 Cor. 13:4-7, Rom. 12:9-17) and leave assumptions, hearsay, and preconceived notions at the door!

Prov. 18:13 Answering before listening is both stupid and rude. That is the hardest rule for me to follow, I always “listen ahead.”

Check your emotions, Colossians 3:8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.

Be quick to hear, James 1:19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

My grandfather told me once that I should think about something ten times before I spoke and I was quick to answer him with, “But Pop, then I would never say anything!” His only answered me with a small knowing smile and his meaning was loud and clear!

Say what you mean and mean what you say! Proverbs 15:28 The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words. Proverbs 21:23 Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble.

Mark Twain said: Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.” And everybody said amen!

These days you have to be able to speak “text” language to be understood, I’m still learning, but I know One that we can speak with that knows exactly what we’re saying because He knows the thoughts and intents of our heart, Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

The old hymn says: “He knows the bitter weary way, the endless striving day by day, the souls that weep the soul that prays, He know, He knows.”

The Bible is God’s way of communicating with us, read His Word to see what He is saying to you!

About harolene

Thank you for stopping by for a visit! If you read my thoughts you will see that I am sometimes serious, at other times sappy or funny, occasionally I am sad and sentimental, but I am always sincere! I am a single mother who raised two children, born ten years apart and different sexes so first it was bows and dolls, pretty dresses and boys! When my son was born it was rough and tumble games, baseball, soccer, wrestling and girls! I am known for my "smile" and for my default answer to any situation, "no problem", which was something I didn't realize I did until it was pointed out to me! I am a moon watcher and a star gazer. I am astounded and feel so small knowing that every creature that has ever walked the face of this earth has gazed upon that same beautiful orb that my eyes can behold on any night when the earth is not wearing her cloak of clouds. My parents have made me the person that I am. Their love, veracity in all areas of life, humor and passion for their work and each other have given me hope that my life can actually be a happy one! Chances are if you are reading this you already know all this but again, I appreciate your stopping by! While you're here hit the "Like" button for me and thanks for checking in!

I have been touting myself as a “professional communicator” for many years. In 2007 I retired from a communications company and received much training over the years. I know God has gifted me in this area but that ability to run what I say through that test of Is it kind? Is it true? BUT THE KICKER for me is the 3rd question, Is it necessary? So a work in progress I am I am. Good to see you this morning, thanks for the visit.
