Mushroom or Oak Tree?

We use microwaves and convection ovens to speed up the cooking process, instead of peeling and boiling spuds we use instant potatoes, and we can drive thru for everything from burgers to fried fish, chicken and Chinese food! If we pray for patience, we want it now and when we pray a prayer we definitely want an instant answer.

Did you think God forgot you? How could He when He formed you in the first place?

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations that’s what I had in mind for you.”

I have prayed prayers that received instant answers but then there have been times that I had to wait and work on my patience before it was answered!

Luke 21:19 In your patience you possess your soul. Imagine, your immortal soul depends on it!

Habakkuk 2:3 If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.

I have read that promise many times because I needed to remind myself, now I am reminding you that there is no quick fix in this life for anything! If there were, no one would be: fat, thin, scrawny, poor or sick, we have to work for what we want, but God is faithful to help us when we ask him!

Matthew 7:13-15 “Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention. “Be wary of false preachers who smile a lot, dripping with practiced sincerity. Chances are they are out to rip you off some way or other. Don’t be impressed with charisma; look for character. Who preachers are is the main thing, not what they say. A genuine leader will never exploit your emotions or your pocketbook. These diseased trees with their bad apples are going to be chopped down and burned.

Romans 5:3-5 There’s more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!

I read something that made me think: When God wants to make a mushroom he takes 6 hours. To make an oak tree he takes 60 years. So which do you want to be? Be patient!

Philippians 1:6 There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.

When God starts a work in you, He finishes it! I used to see a lady on late night TV billed as “Moms Mabley” and the phrase she was most known for saying about herself was, “God don’t make no junk!”

Psalm 8:1 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth! Who has set Your glory above the heavens. Praise Him, give Him your trust, He won’t let you down!

I am definitely an Oak tree, I know that because I am still a work in progress!
