Telling the truth can accomplish getting you censured by people you know, ok I will risk it by telling you something I believe to be the truth, and there are people who will disagree with me, you have a right to think whatever you like and know that I don’t have to agree with you to love you anyway. In the past few days and weeks we have seen mass murders committed by people on a “righteous mission” so the subject of gun control keeps coming up.
So let us say the government comes in and takes away all of our guns, are the criminals or terrorists going to walk out of hiding places, guns in hand and surrender them? You already know the answer to that, so then who is left with guns except criminals while the law-abiding citizen has obediently given their weapons up?
I grew up hearing the stories about how the Turkish government convinced the Armenian people to surrender their weapons because they were going to “take care of them” and take care of them they did by killing them with the weapons they had surrendered. Is that too distant for you to think about? Well then ask the Native Americans how well the government treated them when they took their weapons from them sending them on the Trail of Tears.
I saw the headlines of one newspaper that said God wasn’t going to solve this problem, and others who say, “How can a loving God let these things happen?” Because the loving God of whom they are speaking was not consulted about it. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden they gave the control of what happens on this planet to the serpent who deceived them. It is our job as Christians to pray, 2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Lean on the promises given us in the Word,
You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow, say this: “God, you’re my refuge I trust in you and I’m safe!” That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you—under them you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm. Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night, not flying arrows in the day, not disease that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high noon. Even though others succumb all around, drop like flies right and left, no harm will even graze you. You’ll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance, watch the wicked turn into corpses. Yes, because God’s your refuge, the High God your very own home, evil can’t get close to you, harm can’t get through the door. He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they’ll catch you; their job is to keep you from falling. You’ll walk unharmed among lions and snakes, and kick young lions and serpents from the path. “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!”
I remember hearing about a song that had been popular during Word War ll, “Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition”, and I wonder if we are going to be in that situation again.
