OK I gotta do it, just have to do it! Christmas Spirit, what is it?
First the Christmas Spirit is something we should have all year around, but that being said– What do you need to happen to you to make you grateful enough to have the “Christmas Spirit”?
I have friends, one in particular that will be reading this as soon as I post it, that has terminal cancer and needs the help of God and an outright miracle, in which I do believe for I have seen! This person writes encouraging messages to me and makes me smile! Now tell me, which terminal disease do you have? Oh, that would be none? That’s one thing for which to be grateful!
Next item; I got a message from a person today asking for help for some children that will not have toys for Christmas unless some kind souls help them. I used to do that from the church I attended, we had a pantry and fed up to 32 families and got toys at Christmas for them and again at special times like Easter and always when there was a death in the family. I no longer have that resource but I do what I can on a personal basis. So the question is this, do you have enough money to buy Christmas for your loved ones? You do? Then that is the second thing for which to be thankful.
I know of another family that is looking for a place to live with their three children… I can identify with that and I know all about it, twelve people in one house with one bathroom that is a total of one toilet to use and one bathtub no shower! If you have a decent roof over your head then we are up to three things you have to have a happy feeling about, your health, your finances and your home.
Seems at Christmas time people want to be blue because they don’t have a “significant” other, there are plenty of people who would take the person you may be ignoring off your hands and be happy to do it! What is it with always looking on the other side of the fence to see if the grass is greener? That’s why you see cows with their neck caught in barbed wire. It’s all the same and pining for the one that got away will only tear at your heart until there is nothing left and if you had that one you would be looking back at what you left and wish you had them back. Listen, that is all soap opera mentality and unrealistic. Are you happy yet?
Remember the story of Lot’s wife, how when they were leaving Sodom escaping certain destruction that instead of being happy to be getting out of Dodge she went against absolute instructions to keep her eyes forward and looked back at the city she had called home, and was turned into a pillar of salt.
Isaiah 43:18-19 “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old, Behold I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Nehemiah 8:10 “Go home and prepare a feast, holiday food and drink; and share it with those who don’t have anything: This day is holy to God. Don’t feel bad. The joy of God is your strength!”
Sometimes being happy is a decision, we all have things we can sit around and be depressed about, believe me I am speaking from experience, but if you really believe that God is your help in a time of need, then pull up your big kid panties and decide to make Christmas happy for someone other than yourself! I believe if you do that you will find a smile on your own sour pickle puss!
As for me I am going to buy a special doll for that little girl, why don’t you give a gift to someone who needs it! Try to make someone else’s Christmas as merry as you wish yours were! I am going to have a very Merry Christmas and I want you to have one also!
