Rescue me!

There is a time for all of us when we feel helpless, we need a “hand-up” to get out of the proverbial ditch! When you read the Psalms, you find that David felt that way quite a lot! Then there was the time that the prophet Elisha sat down and just wanted to die because, he was being chased by a woman!

Psalm 34:11-19 Come, children, listen closely; I’ll give you a lesson in God worship.  Who out there has a lust for life? Can’t wait each day to come upon beauty?  Guard your tongue from profanity, and no more lying through your teeth. Turn your back on sin; do something good.  Embrace peace—don’t let it get away!  God keeps an eye on his friends; his ears pick up every moan and groan.  God won’t put up with rebels; he’ll cull them from the pack. Is anyone crying for help? God is listening, ready to rescue you. If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath. Disciples so often get into trouble; still, God is there every time.

We take baby aspirin because the Doc says it will keep us from having a heart attack, I have read that it didn’t make any difference but still a lot of people do it because “someone said so.”

In the above scripture we see a prescription from God on how to worship Him and see how He helps us to have a long life. Best points were: Guard your tongue, don’t tell lies, and turn your back on sin, do something good and then embrace peace!

That all sounds simple enough, doesn’t it?

The next part is one I particularly love it is, “God keeps an eye on His friends! His ears pick up EVERY moan and groan.” Then verse 17, I feel is for all of us today, maybe some more than others…”Is anyone crying for help? God is listening, ready to rescue you.” Oh wow and praise God for that.

When your babies are little you hear every time they roll over at night, I used to wake up standing by my baby’s crib and realize that I had heard them in my sleep! If we are programmed to do that as human beings looking after our young, then know we are only the earthly example of how God is toward us. Verse 18 tells us that if our heart is broken, “we will find God right there!” How much more comfort do you need?

I remember one night several years ago, my dad was so sick that the family gathered to pray and as we prayed for him he gained peace, a real peace that settled in and let him go to sleep. When my grandson, who was about 8 years old, heard us praying he came into the room and wanted to offer his own prayer. When he started he thanked God for everything you can imagine and then began to tell God, “thank you for Moses, he led the people out of Egypt to the Promised Land, he was a good guy, God and God thank you for Noah who took all the animals and his family and friends on the boat when the great storm came, he was a good guy too. Now God, I want you to take a great big stick with a ball on the end of it and hit the devil on his head and get him off my grandfather!” Well you might imagine that prayer went on and on and by the time he got through my dad was softly laughing and the joy of hearing his little great-grandson pray such a prayer was all the medicine he needed!

Do I think God heard that prayer? I know He did, for sure and it is my opinion that Gabriel’s prayer was the one he answered!

So what are you worried about? Just go to God and tell Him Who He is to you and remind Him of all the “good guys” in the Bible, well maybe not that, but you get the idea. God hears us without all the pomp of speaking in King James English!

About harolene

Thank you for stopping by for a visit! If you read my thoughts you will see that I am sometimes serious, at other times sappy or funny, occasionally I am sad and sentimental, but I am always sincere! I am a single mother who raised two children, born ten years apart and different sexes so first it was bows and dolls, pretty dresses and boys! When my son was born it was rough and tumble games, baseball, soccer, wrestling and girls! I am known for my "smile" and for my default answer to any situation, "no problem", which was something I didn't realize I did until it was pointed out to me! I am a moon watcher and a star gazer. I am astounded and feel so small knowing that every creature that has ever walked the face of this earth has gazed upon that same beautiful orb that my eyes can behold on any night when the earth is not wearing her cloak of clouds. My parents have made me the person that I am. Their love, veracity in all areas of life, humor and passion for their work and each other have given me hope that my life can actually be a happy one! Chances are if you are reading this you already know all this but again, I appreciate your stopping by! While you're here hit the "Like" button for me and thanks for checking in!
